Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The familiar story of Martha and Mary serves as a reminder for us to “choose the
better portion” with our families. Are we too busy to really be present to each other?
Give the gift of time and attention to spouse, children, parents and siblings. Truly
listen to them and do what they enjoy doing. “Only if we devote time to our children,
speaking of important things with simplicity and concern, and finding healthy ways for
them to spend their time, will we be able to shield them from harm.” (Pope Francis,
The Joy of Love #260)
364 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week.
We have a new adorer…Janet Smith. God bless and keep you, and thank
you! All our vacancies have been filled, for now. Be a partner of Monday,
10-11am and for Friday 7-8pm. Others are available as well. “As I reflect on
human history and our Judeo-Christian story, what strikes me is the way
the God is constantly reaching out to us. God wants to be with us. God yearns to be
with us. And so often we complicate our relationship with God when more than
anything else, before all the doctrines and after all the dogmas, it would seem that
God simply wants to be with us.” (Author Matthew Kelly) Call 330-690-9661.

Pastor’s Formed Pick of the Week: “The Story of Saint Maria Goretti”
The story of Saint Maria Goretti is retold in this beautifully made film from Italy. It
explains the plight of the poor laborers of the time, struggling to survive in a swampy area with
rampant malaria and extreme poverty. Luigi and Assunta Goretti keep their faith despite the
hardship, and they instill in their children a deep love for God. Their daughter Maria is especially
devout. But tragedy strikes more than once: sickness and death affects the Goretti family, and
then their young neighbor Alessandro does the unthinkable. This is not a story of a Saint that
may be suitable for young children. Maria died bravely but violently defending her virginity.
Adults may want to view the movie first and with their children if deemed age appropriate.

Christ’s Peace!

Charitable Giving Ideas for 2019 - Did you know that gifting appreciated stock (held more than
one year) to a charitable organization such as Catholic Charities or your parish may allow you to
deduct the stock’s full value and bypass capital gains tax? In addition, if you are 70 ½ or older,
you may be able to reduce your taxable income this year with a gift made directly from your IRA
to a qualified charity such as Catholic Charities or your parish. Your accountant or IRA
administrator can help you understand how the IRA Charitable Rollover works and the particular
steps you can take to lower your taxes and help Catholic Charities, your parish or a diocesan
ministry. Learn more by contacting Sandy Lucas of the Catholic Community Foundation at (216)

Your spiritually adopted baby has been quite active over the past month.
Already your baby is 10,000 times bigger than at conception. Your baby has
developed the foundations of her brain, spinal cord, and nervous system by
the 20th day. Her heart began to beat on the 21st day, pumping blood through its own
circulatory system and the blood type can be different from her mothers. Your baby is
most vulnerable during the next month of being aborted. Pray that the Lord of Life
might move the heart of her mother to give her the most precious gift of all – the gift of
life.

Living Bread Radio AM1060 has a presentation of “Open your hymnal” on Saturdays from 11-

most beloved, enduring, and consequential songs sung at liturgy. They’ll break open each song
through conversation with composers, text writers, and other artists. They’ll also look into the
scriptural sources of the text, the song writing process, and more.
