Glasgow makes a good run in State Tourney

Luke Morehouse said, “In 10U
baseball, anything goes.”
And things went quite well
for them in the Cal Ripken 10U
Tournament in Belgrade that started
on Thursday and wrapped up on
Sunday with four of eight teams Valley. In the National Pool were
remaining, Glasgow being one of Belgrade, Bozeman, Glendive and

Friday to nip Miles City 12-11 in extra innings.
“That was a huge win for us,” Coach Morehouse
said a major momentum swing going into bracket play
on Saturday as a #6 seed rather than being the #8 seed.
The day opened with #4 Bozeman beating #5
Glendive 6-3. Glasgow had Miles City’s number, beating
the #3 seed 10-8. #2 Gallatin Valley blanked #7 Havre
10-zip, and the final game on Saturday had top-seeded
Belgrade handling #8 seed Big Muddy 12-2.
Action resumed with a pair of semifinal games at 8:00
Sunday morning. On Fowler Field, Bozeman knocked
off #1 Belgrade 12-5 while Welch Field was occupied by
Glasgow getting a second chance at Gallatin Valley.
And what a battle that ensued, a genuine pitching dual.
Glasgow scored three runs in the first inning and added
another run in the second for their offensive total as Gallatin
Valley was saving their ace pitcher for the championship, but
had to bring him in to shut Glasgow down.
“It was too late,” Coach Morehouse said of Gallatin
Valley’s pitching decision as they were overlooking
Glasgow after handling them so easily on Thursday.
“Brody (Hanson) pitched a heck of a game for us,”
he said of allowing just three runs, with Jack Morehouse
coming in for relief and shutting them out the final
couple of innings. Final score, 4-3.
That would set up the state title game with Bozeman
and Glasgow, and it didn’t go good for our hometown
boys as Bozeman stole the show 17-6.
“We didn’t have anything left in the tank,” Coach
Morehouse explained of their pitching status. In fact,
with only ten kids on their roster, they even put a kid on
the mound that has never thrown a pitch all season!
“The pitch count, it’s a strategy,” Coach Morehouse
noted, “and I learned a lot about it, especially at this
state tournament.”
“But that game with Gallatin County, that was
really our championship game,” he added, “It was so
much fun. The kids had fun, the parents had fun, the
coaches had fun... yeah, it was a great time.”
Voted Tournament MVPs were Hank Hopstad,
Cade Hudyma and Jack Morehouse. While most of the
kids move up a notch next season, Hank and Jack still
have another season of 10U ball. Coach Morehouse says
there’s a great group of eight-year-olds from this season
getting on board 2020.
Looks like Coach Morehouse will be missing the 33rd
Annual Montana Governor’s Cup Walleye Tournament,
but says he’s fine with that as long as the kids give him
100% on the baseball field as these 10U’s did this season.

Governor’s Cup rounded up for a photo upon the
conclusion of the event prior to a nasty little storm that
blew through Kiwanis Park. They are, first place, Matt
Poole and Adam Morehouse of Glasgow; 2nd place,
Kris Keller of Wolf Point and Cody Strohm of Richey;
and third place, Josh Kittleson of Glasgow and Scott
Collinsworth of the Fort Peck Marina. Great job guys,
