Five key lessons to learn from Travelling

Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” -
Gustav Flaubert.

Travelling can teach you so much in a non-formal setup more than a course,
university or even a job. Here is my take on what travelling has taught me that could
be put to practice when you come back to office after a vacation:

1. Creative Mindset –
How many times have we travelled without wifi struggling for directions or just
missed the connecting train. Travelling makes our minds more creative in looking
for alternative solutions when it is most needed. Travelling pushes you to leave your
comfort zone and adjust to the surrounding. It’s exhilarating to forget what’s
familiar for a bit and expand your horizons. Once you do, there is no better
feeling than taking on unfamiliar territory and making it familiar

2. Explore differences & discover similarities –

Once you step out, out of curiosity you tend to notice every bit that is different
compared to your home, be it culture, food, habits, social expectations, manner and
more.. In communicating and interacting with other cultures, you’ll find just
how they vary from your own. In Italy, many people go for post-meal walks. In
Vietnam, it’s common for people to take a nap, after lunch.

After observing what separates your culture or food or manners from

another’s, keep an eye out for common ground too. Do you and the people
around you have a shared love of art? Or both communicate with a heavy
emphasis on body language? Where do your moral and social values align?

3. Being patient-
Travelling is not always just fun, you do miss buses, flights gets cancelled, bad
weather forcing you to change plans/schedules, it happens all the time but trust me
this builds a character. The biggest lesson I’ve learned through my travels is
that it’s okay to wait and have lag time, and if something happens to go
wrong, to be patient when reaching out for help. Patience is truly a virtue and
you’ll learn to tackle the circumstances as they come.

4.
Realize the big picture

New perspective is gained when you come back after a vacation. You realize how big
and different the world is, at the same time you can really appreciate the small
things that happens to you all the time . A home cooked meal will mean so much
more to you because you missed it for so long. The person who smiled at you
on the street becomes your best friend.

Don’t adhere too strictly to a planner; feel free to get lost down a windy, sun-
soaked alleyway or find hidden treasure in a sprawling marketplace. Unleash
your inner pioneer and show yourself what you’re made of. You’re guaranteed
to be impressed.
