RISKS, HAZARDS AND PREVENTIONS

Welding is a very important process for mechanical engineering because thanks to this we can
join two metal pieces the way we want, forming a solid and compact piece from two pieces.
But a great advantage also implies a series of risks related to the same functions, with the
process itself, with the conditions where the complementary operations are carried out, such
as:

 Electric power (electrocution, burns, etc.)

 Gas management (fires, explosions, etc.)
 Thermal energy (burns, fire, etc.)
 Generation of radiation, gases and toxic fumes
 Works at heights or closed places.

All these risks can be prevented by technical instruction and protective equipment.

KINDS OF RISK, CAUSES AND PREVENTION

 Falls.-

CAUSES PREVENTION
Works on stairs. Use of harness or other equipment.

Bad distribution of machinery and
instruments.
Sparks jump to ignition sources.
Work with containers that contain
flammable liquid contents.
Atmosphere over oxygenated.
PREVENTION
make an adequate storage.
Use of curtains or screens for welding.
Cleaning of said container.
Clean with hot water and degas with
steam.

 Burns.-

CAUSES PREVENTION
Direct contact with hot objects. Use of protective implements.
Use of synthetic materials. Avoid its use.

 Radiation.-

CAUSES
Exposure to UV, IR and visible radiation.
Undue contact with the skin and eyes.
PREVENTION
Locate the cab posts, separation
screens, welding curtains, etc.
Use the welding mask with a suitable
filter and avoid leaving naked areas
when welding.

 Noise.-

CAUSES PREVENTION
Use of the machines in the room. Use of headphones.

 Work clothes (not synthetic material).

 Gloves

 Respiratory protection.
