Lesson Plan in Science and Health

Grade III

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of 40 minutes discussion at least 75% of the grade 3 pupils will
be able to:
A. Identify the sense organs and their uses;
B. Appreciate the importance of the sense organs of the body

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Motivation
(the teacher will ask some questions
about five senses)
 Children what is the condition
of the weather today? - cold
 What do you observe of our
surroundings?
What have you seen - things around
 Do you hear sound? - Yes, ma’am
2. Activity
 Now, I have here a story and I
want you to listen carefully and
we will answer few questions
later.
(the teacher will show a
picture)
 Do you know who’s in the - No, ma’am
picture?

Helen Keller (1880-1968) lived in the world of
darkness and silence. She was blind and deaf. She
coud neither see nor hear. Yet, she became one of the
America’s most famous author and lecturer.
She had a very good teacher Anne Sullivan.
Anne made Helen feel the objects with one hand.
Then she traced the word for each object onto the
palm of Helen’s hand.

Comprehensive questions
 Who was Helen keller? - She was blind and deaf.

 What was the name of her teacher? - Teacher Anne Sullivan.

 How did her teaher make her learned to read - She let Helen feel the objects
and write? with one hand. Then she
traced the word for each
object onto the palm of

 What sense organ did she use? - Sense of touch

3. Uclocking of Difficulties
 Organs - Organ derives from the
Latin word organum,
meaning instrument.

 Function - The kind of action or


activity propper.

 Sense organs - A specialized organ or


structure, such as the
eye, ear , tongue, nose,
or skin, where sensory
neurons are
consentrated and that
functions as a receptor.
4. Presentation
“Okay, children our topic for this day is all
about the sense organs”

(the teacher shows the pictures of the five


senses)

EYES
The eyes is use for seeing.
 We could see the things in our environment with
the use of our beautiful eyes.

 We could identify the colors, textures, the height,


the size of different things. The charming faces of
our friends beacuse of the eyes.

What organ do we use for seeing? - The eyes.


NOSE
Nose is our sense of smelling.
 We could smell the perfume, the fragrance of
the flowers because of our nose. The use of the
nose is to be able to smell things.

What is the use of our nose? - For smelling.

EAR
Ear is for hearing.
 The ear is the organ that detects the sound.
We can hear the sweet music, bark of dogs etc.

What is the function of our ears? - Hearing the sounds.

TOUNGUE
Tongue is use for tasting.
 We can identify the taste of foods weather it is
sweet, sour, delicious, and salty.

What is the function of our tongue? - Taste the food.

SKIN
Skin is the sense of touch.
 Sense of touch is impotant in a number of ways.
It can detect the different textures as well as
temperatures of different levels. Our skin enables
us to detect something cold, soft or hard.

What is the organ that we use for feeling? - Skin

5. Generalization

So now, we can identify already the five


important sense organs in our body the eyes, nose,
ears, tongue, and the skin.

EYES is our sense of sight.


NOSE is our sense of smelling.
EAR is our sense of hearing.
TONGUE is our sense of taste.
SKIN is our sense of touch.

IV. APPLICATION
Group Activity

Group yourselves into two. Here are the


meachanics of the game. Arrange the word
puzzle that I will show to you. I will give a clue
and the first group that can give three(3) correct
answers will be declared as the winner.

1. MLELS -The function of the nose.


2. OSNE -organ for smelling.
3. GUNOTE -use for tasting.
4. CHOUT -the function of the skin.
5. EESING -the function of the eyes.

End of the game. (Announce the winner.)


V. EVALUATION
