MLA Formatting
MLA is the most popular formatting technique in my experience, but it also depends on

what your major or career field is on the preferred method of formatting. It focuses on making

the information easy and concise to find. It has guidelines including proper double-spacing

throughout, indentation of every paragraph, and citations of any sources used while writing.

There are certain guidelines on how everything is to be formatted under MLA, which is why

there are different types of formatting.

Instructor: Laci Megis

Subject: 9th Grade English
Lesson: Noun and Verb explanation and examples, students will then be required to write their
own examples.
Objective:

• For students to understand what noun and verbs are. That a noun is the person, place,
thing, or idea of the sentence; and a verb is the action.
• This can be very easy, or more difficult, depending on what the noun and the verb
sentence are. I will include two examples of bad noun and verb usage, as well as two
great examples of their usage.
Standard:

• CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.9-10.1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard

English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

Timeline:

• 45 minutes total
• Including an explanation of what a noun and verb are for 15 minutes using a handout
with examples where the noun and verb are underlined.
• Another 10 minutes as well for examples on the board where I will take volunteers to
identify and underline the noun and verb.
• 20 minutes for them to write their own examples.

Check for Understanding:

• I will hand out a slip with two sentences needing the noun and verb found, as well as a
small spot for a simple definition.
• The slip must be finished and handed back to me before they exit the classroom.
• This will give me an overview on how well my lesson was understood, as well as where I
may need to explain better.
