Universal Design for Learning (UDL) :

The students will use this project as a form of representation and expression. This activity helps learners to
get a visual aspect of the concept. Students can add in pictures and videos; Students can also put interesting
keys in there to engage students. This includes music and other cool sound effects. The students who are ELL
students could also use videos that translate some languages into the video as well.
Lesson idea implementation:
Students will first be led by teacher to demonstrate to students how to create their movie. Students will use
Google Images to save pictures of MLK, Jr. After, students will take the pictures to form them into a slide
show using the app IMovie. The students will then select a video insert into the slide show. Lastly, students
will edit, and blend movie together and then add music.
This project aligns with the standard by addressing the importance of a key person and the time era that they
were in. The students can learn from this project, about what MLK believed in, and his dream. Many students
can add in their own key things they thought was interesting about MLK as well while remaining focused on
the key points. This project gives students a lead role in creating their understanding of MLK.
Importance of technology
Technology is a very important part of the project that the students will be creating, because students are
able to produce a movie and be able to provide quality work through students’ creativity. This project could
not be done without the technology because students wouldn’t be able to add text, music, credits and more.
Technology allows students creativity to expand. When looking at this learning experience students could as
incorporate media and apps such as Audacity to help with maybe recordings of voice as well as other music
and sounds the student may want to put in the project.
Inspiration (optional):
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: To help ensure the safety of the students and faculty and staff, students
can have a release form sent ho9me with them stating the activity that will be held in class for parents to
grant permission for students to wither be filmed or recorded. The teacher should also go over privacy laws

and agreements that are associated with the software that is being used. Teacher should also review movies
and work to make sure students’ information is protected.

Reflective Practice: After designing this lesson idea, this could impact the students learning by allowing them
to enter higher levels of thinking. This idea allows students create and produce their own film and apply
information that has been taught in class or it helps them get into research. Students can expand this lesson
by simply by possibly create another project regarding other famous Americans or Civil Rights activists. The
students can also publish this to a school website or another site for it to go up a level.
