Answered Dec 18
I appeared my PTE exam on 15th Dec after 2 weeks of research and smart preparation. I
have scored 90 in all sections with an overall score of 90 in PTE Academic Exam.

I am an average english speaker, majorly watch contents in English in Youtube and

Netflix. Hence my listening skills are pretty much good is what i believe.

Here are my 2 cents for preparation. Please follow step wise.

a. Find out your current level

Buy the Gold test preparation Kit from Welcome - PTE Academic. It has 2 practice tests
which is closest to actual PTE exam you can ever get. Please note that the cost of this is
60$, which means per exam it charges 30$.

Trust me you don’t want to screw up the actual exam and appear again. Each exam will
cost more than 11000 INR or close to 190$.

The aim is to appear first test in cold without any preparation.

Check what are your scores, what is your strength and weakness. You will find out the
areas, where you need to work on.

This my Mock test 1 score without any preparation

Overall: 76

Listening 77, Reading 72, Speaking 72, Writing 78

b. Score Assessment

If your score is below 60 then you seriously need to work on your concepts. The
preparation time can be anywhere between one month to 45 days. You may also need
specialised guidance, lot of reading and comprehension. Remember this- you can’t
attain superior level on language in a fortnight

If the score is above 70, don’t worry. You are almost there. You just need to be aware of
the format, few tricks and tips to reach 79+ level. If you have hit 70 level, then check for
the date and book the exam 15 days from then. Trust me, 20 hours of preparation plus 2
mock test is all you need.

c. Start the preparation

I have followed E2 PTE Academic free videos. The content and approach is amazing.
Trust me you only need to refer his full length videos. Just follow his structures of essay
writing, techniques on re-tell lecture as well as describe image.

d. Practice

For practice, you can use your PTE gold kit. However no. of questions are few. Don’t
forget to record your every speaking exercise in your smart phone and listen to yourself.
You can find out where you are making mistakes.

For practicing i was using PTE GOLD youtube videos. No need to hear their solution.
Just follow E2 language structure and listen to yourself.

Try doing at least 5 Re-tell lecture and 5 describe images every day for last 5 days.

e. Appear the Mock again

Strange, but it’s true. In actual exam, the algorithm gives higher score. I personally feel i
had performed average in actual exam as compared to my mocks.

Check the score. Even if the score in some section has not crossed 79, you can still get
79+ on exam day.

Overall: 87

Listening 90, Reading 77, Speaking 90, Writing 85

Some Miscellaneous Tips:

a. You can easily get lost with too many contents in Youtube. Restrict yourself to only a
couple of verified sources.

b. I followed navjot brar only for checking the emergency tips which is quite helpful. I
personally don’t agree with some of her methods of writing the initials of repeat
sentence. You need to hear with full attention for such tasks, use your muscle memory
and can’t afford to write. Many Indians find her videos good as they think if she had got
90 with her accent , then we can too. Please note that fluency and pronunciation is
different from accent.

c. Click next once your speaking is completed in speaking activity.

d. Essay word count: 270–290

e. Summary word count: 35–40

f. Listening Summary Word Count: 55–65

g. Describe Image and re-tell lecture Speaking time: It’s safe to speak for 35 Second+.
However, i spoke for 30 seconds in most of my describe image activity.

h. In answer Short question if you don’t know the answer, then say one of the option
immediately rather than keeping silent. Remember the microphone goes off after 3
seconds and you won’t be able to record your response.

And finally, even if you did some mistakes in speaking section on test day, don’t lose
hope, keep going. I had repeated and stammered two to three times during exam too.

All the best for your future endeavour !!!!!
