Prepared by: Chris John Espiritu

I. OBJECTIVE/S

A. Specific Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students shall are expected to:

1. Define the three measure of central tendency: Mean, Median and Mode
2. Compute the mean, median, and mode of an ungrouped data

A measure of central tendency is a single
value that is used to describe or represent
a data or the center of the data.
PowerPoint Presentation
There are three types pf Measure of Lecture and Discussion Whiteboard and Marker
Central Tendency .

 Mean
 Median
 Mode
Mean
The arithmetic mean, often called as the
mean, is the sum of all the data values in
a data set divided by the total number of
data values.
Lecture and Discussion PowerPoint Presentation
It is what most people call an average, It Whiteboard and Marker
is the most frequently used measure of
central tendency because it is subject to
less error; it is also easily calculated.
Mean of ungrouped data:

x  sample mean
 x  sum of all data values
x  data values
n  number of data values

six hospitals who acquired an infection
Example 1: The following are the ages of Lecture and Discussion PowerPoint Presentation while hospitalized: 110, 76, 29, 38, 105
selected 8 employees in a company: 53, Whiteboard and Marker and 39.
32, 61, 27, 39, 44, 49 and 57.
Find the mean.

Median
The median is a measure of central
tendency that is the middle value or the
middle term in a data set that has been
ranked in increasing (or decreasing)
order.
Lecture and Discussion PowerPoint Presentation
It divides an ordered set of observation Whiteboard and Marker
into two equal parts, if an observation/
data value is smaller than the median,
then it belongs in the lower half of the
ordered data; and if an observation is
larger than the median, then it belongs in
the upper half of the ordered data.
Median of ungrouped data:

Example 2: The following are the total

receipts of 7 mining companies (in The following are the number of years
million pesos): 1.3, 6.6, 10.5, 12.6, 50.7, Lecture and Discussion PowerPoint Presentation of operation of 8 mining companies: 9,
4.7, and 7.3. Whiteboard and Marker 11, 16, 12, 17, 20, 18, and 19.
Find the median of this receipts.

Mode
The Mode is a French word that means
fashion—an item that is most popular or
common. In statistics, the mode Lecture and Discussion PowerPoint Presentation
represents the most common value in a Whiteboard and Marker
data set. It is the data value that occurs
with the greatest frequency in a data set.
