Project Status Report for 7th Semester

(i) GROUP NO : IT-14

(ii) Department/Program : Bachelor of Technology, Computer Science and

Engineering department, Information Technology

(iii) Date of Project Report Submission : November 26, 2018

(iv) Extended work of Last(6th) semester : NA

(v) New Project/ Date of change (Changed in 7th semester) : August 2018

(vi) Mentor Name : Dr. Shashwati Banerjea

(vii) Status of the Project : We are clear on the model over which the
implementations have been done. We have implemented some portions of it
and we are currently working on the UI and algorithms required for selection
of tasks and corresponding nodes.

(viii) Project Details :

a. Project Title : SDN over Fog Computing
b. Title of Last Semester Project/Mini Project : Wireless Mesh over
SDN
c. Title of New Project : SDN over Fog Computing

Origin of the Project (Technicality and motivation behind this work) :

We can see devices studded with sensors near us in huge numbers. Mobiles,
wearables, smart devices, etc are the most common examples of such type of
devices. As IoT has arrived, the amount of data generated is huge. This data
is presently fed to the cloud computing servers but as the data is huge, this
results in network congestion and the response time is also poor. We know
that the end nodes are mostly idle and do not make use of their computing
power to the fullest. Thus, using the edge of the network for this computing
will be a solution. Hence, we need to move towards edge computing
paradigm from cloud computing in order to solve the above stated problems.
Hence, in our project, we try to make implementations in the edge computing
paradigm so as to help bring in the IoT and other such applications.
Other Similar ideas available on internet :

edge network.

Importance of the proposed project in the context of current
status and its relevance to computer science and engineering:

As already stated that the computing paradigm is shifting from cloud to edge,
our current project is in coordination with the current technology in the
world. We are trying to implement the edge computing in a way that would
make it fitter for use in the IoT and other applications. If this framework is
properly followed, it would surely help in managing the network better and
even improve the user response time. We already know the concept of edge
computing but by intermixing it with the concepts of SDN and scheduling
algorithms, we can make it even better. Further, if we also bring in the usage
of docker swarm in it, it will further improve the performance.
