Martha’s generous service is not minimized by Jesus,
but her worries show that her service needs to be
grounded in Mary’s kind of love for him. Together, the
sisters embody the truth that generosity and love of
God are intertwined realities. Following Christ means
becoming like Martha and Mary. Be generous and love
God. These are mutually reinforcing, as is the two
sisters’ relationship with each other.

The Ontario State Deputy of the Knights of Columbus, David Peters,
along with other KC officers visited our parish this week and
announced that he intends to personally oversee the creation of a new
Knights of Columbus Council in Our Lady of Mercy Parish. This is an
endeavour which I fully support. In this regard, I wholeheartedly encourage all
Catholic men in our community who are over the age of eighteen to join this Catholic
Fraternal Organization. A representative of the Knights will be at the back of the
church after all masses to provide more information on how you can become a

Vocations Office - Hello friends! My name is Father John Perdue and I am the Director
of Vocations for the Diocese of Peterborough and the Director of Peterborough Campus
Ministry, our outreach to students at Trent University and Fleming College's Sutherland
Campus. It has been a blessing to work with our seminarians and with young people seeking to
discover the will of God for their lives. I have also witnessed incredible growth in our Catholic
student groups at Trent University and Fleming College. Lives are being changed as young
people discover Jesus and the Church for the first time. As you well know, young people
discerning their vocations and college students do not have the financial means to contribute
to our ministry efforts. We sincerely need your help. I have high hopes and concrete plans to
develop these ministries, but financial resources are a limiting factor. Bishop Miehm has
graciously allowed for a special collection for Vocations and Campus Ministry to be taken up in
all parishes on the weekend of August 3-4. You will find an envelope set aside for that purpose.
Please give generously to these worthwhile and growing ministries. Thank you very much, in

Office has been the place to share my concerns regarding formation as well as meet for
fraternal fellowship, be it with the other seminarians, or the men discerning where God is
calling them. I have witnessed the fruit of the programs offered through the Vocations Office.
Young men and women, myself included, have been able to prepare their hearts to say "yes"
to God and to have the courage to follow where God leads them."
