Cab tilt, system description

Cab tilt, general

The cab is tilted both forward and backward hydraulically.
The hydraulic system includes:

 A hydraulic pump, activated manually

 A hydraulic cylinder - the piston tilts the cab forward and backward
 Hydraulically controlled locks

Cab tilt pump

The pump, which can be manually operated, is installed on a bracket behind the bumper on the
passenger side. It provides the hydraulic pressure required to operate the hydraulic cylinder and the
control cylinders in the locks.

Manual pump (all variants)

When the piston (10) is raised, oil is sucked in from the reservoir through the inlet valve into the cylinder.
When the piston is pressed down, the oil is pushed out of the cylinder via the outlet valve, through the
control valve and out to the tilt cylinder.

Cab tilt, hydraulic cylinder

The cab tilt cylinder is attached to brackets on the passenger side of the cab floor and the chassis frame
member. The cylinder contains a safety valve that is also used for draining the cylinder when lowering the
cab.

Cab tilt, locks

There are two locks, one on each side at the rear of the cab. The locks secure the cab to the chassis, and
are mounted on the cab rear suspension. They remain locked until sufficient pressure builds up in the cab
tilt system to release them.

1. Control cylinder
2. Latch return spring
3. Latch and indicator lever
4. Lock hook
5. Hook spring

Unlocking
When the cab is raised, the hydraulic pressure from the pump makes the piston in the control
cylinder (1) move the latch (3) to release the hook (4) and open the cab lock. The hook spring (5) pushes
the hook to open position. While the pump is running, the hydraulic pressure keeps the latch (3) in
release position.

Locking
When the pump stops and no pressure is applied, the latch spring (2) pulls the latch (3) back to locked
position, which pushes the piston back into the control cylinder (1). The cab lock is closed when the cab
support pushes the hook to the position where it is locked by the latch (3).

Indicator lever and magnetic contact

Each cab lock is monitored by a magnetic contact. The contacts are connected in series, so as soon as
one of the locks breaks the magnetic contact, the symbol in the display is activated. The locks cannot be
repaired.

 When the cab is locked, the indicator lever (3) is close to the magnetic contact, which switches off
the symbol for tilted cab in the display.
 When the cab is unlocked, the indicator lever (3) is separated from the magnetic contact, which
switches on the symbol for tilted cab in the display.
