CATS AND DOGS WASTE AS ORGANIC FERTILIZER
Fertilizing is one of the most important parts of gardening. Like people and
animals, plants have to eat as well. Spurred by this, people are becoming interested and involved
in organic fertilizers. Organic fertilizers are fertilizers derived from animal matter, animal
excreta (manure), human excreta, and vegetable matter. Naturally occurring organic fertilizers
include animal wastes from meat processing, peat, manure, slurry, and guano.
In contrast, the majority of fertilizers used in commercial farming are extracted from
minerals found in phosphate rock or produced industrially through Industrial Nitrogen Fixation
to produce Ammonia. Organic agriculture, a system of farming, allows for certain fertilizers and
There are loads of options out there when considering a fertilizer but animal is one of the
best sources of fertilizer. Like most things, there are commercially-produced fertilizers available
but others are usually mass-produced, often include lots of chemicals and additives, and can be
very expensive. By comparison, animal waste is a much more natural option that is better for
your soil and the environment and in most cases, just as easily available as its commercial
counterparts. Adding a good dose of animal waste to veggie garden gives it a vital nutrient boost,
with the waste of animals fed on grass and veggie scraps containing high levels of nitrogen
which veggie garden will flourish. Animal manure also increases microbial activity in the soil
Chicken, horse and cow waste is readily available in lots of country areas. Wastes from
animals like rabbits, alpacas and llamas or if you live near a zoo, you may be able to buy some
elephant or rhino waste from them and have your spare cash directed to conservation projects.
But not all waste has the same content of nutrients. Horse manure can contain weed seeds
because horses only digest one quarter of the grass and seeds they eat. Some bird waste, like
chicken, although very high in nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorous, can “burn” plants when
used fresh. Sheep waste is richer in nutrients than cow or horse manure, is drier so is easily to
apply, however can also contain weed seeds. Composting cat litter and its contents may not be a
good idea. Toxoplasmosis is a parasite that causes disease in humans and other animals, but cats
are the only animal known to excrete toxoplasmosis eggs in their feces. Cat waste in compost
can carry a number of unhealthy parasites. Roundworms are one of the most common pests that
afflict our dogs. Roundworms and their cousins, ascarids, may persist in compost made with
others waste.
Herbal medicines and natural herb extracts are widely used as alternative treatments for
various parasitic diseases, and such extracts may also have potential to decrease the side effects
combination). The Thai piperaceae plants Piper betle, P. nigrum and P. sarmentosum are against
Toxoplasma gondii infection. Individually, the extracted the piperaceae plants with ethanol,
passed them through a rotary evaporator and then lyophilized them to obtain crude extracts for
each one.
1. How to improve cats and dogs waste as an organic fertilizer by the treatment of Buyo
1.1. Content
1.2. Feasibility
2. How feasible are cats and dogs waste fertilizers with the treatment of Buyo (Piper Betle
2.1. Availability
2.2. Effectiveness
Rationale:
The purpose of this study was to utilized cats and dogs wastes infected with
toxoplasmosis treated with Buyo (Piper Betle L.) as an organic fertilizer and to compare which is
more effective of the commercial with the natural fertilizer. It also helps to lessen wastes in the
street.
