CHAPTER III

METHDOLOGY

Research Design

Generally, research design means a structure to plan

and execute a particular research. In this study, the
researchers used descriptive correlation design. According
to Tan (2010, as cited in Malgapo (2016) a descriptive
method of research involves analysis of an extremely range
of phenomena that results in comprehensive presentation and
interpretation of statistical tabulations of data yield by
survey. Furthermore, this method is most commonly used in
summarizing values to describe group characteristics of
data like percentage, measure of central tendency and
location, of variability of skewness and kurtosis.

For this research, structured questionnaire method is

used in collecting data. Structured questionnaire consists
of a set of standardized questions which specify the exact
wonding and information in questions used for collecting
information for respondents. It serves as an instrument for
determining possible solutions on the given research
problem.

The researchers used this method because

questionnaires are relatively quick easy to create. It also
gives convenience for both the researchers and respondents.
The researchers were able to gather information from the
respondents without the respondents having any difficulties
in answering the questions regarding to the students
preferred teaching style.
Population and Sampling Procedure

This study was conducted at Aliaga National High School

particularly Grade 12 students during the first semester of the
Academic year 2019-2020. The student respondents are chosen using
stratified simple sampling procedure.

This method choose selected students from all the strands

included in the Grade 12 Senior High School to be the respondents
of this study. Those strands are Humanities and Social
Sciences(HUMSS), Science Technology and Engineering(STEM),
Vocational Livelihood(TVL), and General Academic Strand(GAS),
Accountancy Business Management(ABM).
Respondents of the Study

This study involves 206 students from all strands in the Grade
12 Senior High School. ABM has the greatest number of respondents
that had a total of 32 followed by strand HUMSS 1-4 which have the
same total of respondents which is 26. Then TVL-1 that have 19
students, STEM respondents and GAS both have 15 respondents and
TVL-2 has 22 respondents.

The distribution of the respondents using formula and simple

random sampling where followed:

Formula:

n= N
1+Ne2

n= 426
1+426(0.05)2

n= 206
Table 1.

ABM 67 32 15.73%

GAS 30 14 7.04%

HUMSS 1 54 26 12.68%
HUMSS 2 53 26 12.44%

HUMSS 3 53 26 12.44%
HUMSS 4 53 26 12.44%

STEM 31 15 7.28%

TVL 1 39 19 9.15%

TVL 2 46 22 10.79%

TOTAL 426 206 99.99%= 100%

Table 1 shows the distribution of respondents per strand. As shown,

ABM registered the greatest number of students- respondents,
32(15.73%) followed by HUMSS-1 had 26(12.44%) TVL-1 and STEM had
19 and 15(9.15% and 7.28%) respectively. GAS had 15(7.04%) TVL 2
had 22(10.79%).
Research Locale

This study will be conducted at Aliaga National High School,

Senior High School Department particularly Grade 12 Students of
all strands which is located at Poblacion East II, Aliaga, Nueva
Ecija.

Research Instrument

The main instrument used in this study was the survey

questionnaire which was developed by the researcher himself making
the theoretical framework and various references as basis in the
development.

Description of the Questionnaire The questionnaire for the

students has two parts. Part I is designed to draw information
about the student profile such as their name (optional), sex,
strand favorite subject, attendance in class, and final grade(1st
Grading/1st Semester)

Part II focused on how the respondents assess their preferred

teachers teaching styles, described in terms of Lecture Style,
Coaching Style, Activity-Based Style, Group Style and Blended
Style. A total of 15 items will be used with a 4 point rating
scale. Each of it has an equal distribution and scored according
to the degree of acceptance of the respondents.

Validity of the Questionnaire Since the questionnaire was

adopted by the researcher, this was subjected to pilot testing for
validation. This was tried out among 20 Grade 11 students and their
parents of Aliaga National High School were not included as
respondents to the study.

The researcher personally administered the pilot testing

where he gathered comments and suggestions as to how the
respondents answered the said the said questionnaire. From the
original draft, there were items which were discorded and added
because of repetition and limitation. After incorporating the
comments and suggestions of the respondents and the adviser of
this study, final draft of the questionnaire and paper come out.

Reliability of Questionnaire In testing the reliability of

the questionnaire, the test- retest method was employed. The dry
run was done to the same set of the respondents. The result from
the dry run was recorded and statistically treated. It was revealed
that the instruments reliability is 980 interpreted as “highly
reliable”

Scoring. The questionnaires were scored using the range and

interpretations:

Rating Scale Weights Assigned Result

4 3.20-4.00 Always

3 2.40-3.19 Sometimes

2 1.60-2.35 Seldom

1 1.00-1.59 Never

Data Gathering Procedures

To gather the needed data the researchers were secured

permission and approval to conduct the study from the principal
Mr. Norberto M. Calma thru the principal office in Aliaga National
High School.

The survey questionnaire is personally administrated and

distributed by the researchers. The respondents were briefed on
the significance of the survey as that honest responses would be
cited from them.
Moreover, the researchers asked the respondents questions
relevant to the conduct of this study, then after the proponents
collected all the output sorted them out and analyze them
according to their value of relevance.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The researcher used the following statistical tools to

classified, tabulated and analyzed data in accordance with the
objectives of the study, as follows:

In describing the profile of the respondents the frequency

count and percentage were used. The formula is:

P=F/N x 100

Where: P= percentage

F= frequency

N= number of respondents

In describing students best preferred teaching styles,

weighted mean was used. The formula is:

WM = TFV/N

Where: WM= weighted mean

TFV= total frequency value

FV= frequency value

N= number of respondents

To determine the significant relationship of the profile,

students preferred teaching styles, the Pearson were used.

To determine the significant differences between the

assessment made by the students, the regression analysis was used.
