Corporal punishment in schools is an emotive and controversial topic for many

people. People who are for corporal punishment generally take the view that provided it
can be properly regulated, it can be an effective way of maintaining discipline in an
educational setting, while those who are against it generally view it as an ineffective
method of maintaining discipline and/or unethical. I am in the middle, or shall I say,
undecided whether to agree with the corporal punishment or not. Because for me,
corporal punishment could be effective in some other aspect, because I personally
experience punishment when I was in High School. We must squat for almost an hour if
fail to reach the passing score of our test. But in implementing such things in the class,
we must consider the things that might affect to the children. Before we do such things,
we must ask ourselves, IS IT EFFECTIVE?

Corporal punishment is one of the most long-standing issues in education. There

is no general consensus on the measures necessary to ensure student compliance in
schools. Therefore, several techniques have been used, and some have involved the
infliction of pain to alter misbehavior. Sometimes, seeing those students that lacks
respect or those who are disrupting the class because of their behavior leads me to just
agree with the implementation of Punishment in Class, but Punishment has been
researched for a number of years and there is solid evidence to indicate that a number
of side effects can result from its use. These include the following: (a) it provides a
model of aggression for students to follow, (b) it teaches that physical outbursts are an
acceptable way of resolving conflict, (c) it may lead to decreased learning, (d) it may
result in poor attendance, and (e) it may create an aversion to those responsible for
delivering the punishment. There is little debate about the intent of corporal punishment:
All generally agree that techniques to alter student misbehavior should be used to
promote a safe, effective, and efficient learning environment. What is often debated is
the use of a technique that is based on the infliction of pain.

The people who experienced Punishment in class would say that it’s better to do
such things or to implement punishment because the students now a days lacks
respect, others might say that it shouldn’t be, either way, I guess the best thing that a
teacher could do is to understand why are these students performing such misbehavior.
We must love our students as they are reason why we are in School teaching and
molding them to be as respectful and responsible they could be. We hope that our own
mistakes serve as learning opportunities-in turn, we need to apply this same idea to
children. The right to physical safety and protection extends to soldiers, prisoners, and
adults under the law. The most vulnerable among all, our children, must have the same
right.
