Practical 0: Familiarizing Quantum GIS: Installation of QGIS, datasets for

both Vector and Raster data, Maps.

Step:1: Create a folder in C drive C:\Users\91810\Documents\GIS Practical

Step 2: Download the latest 64bit version of QGIS for windows which is QGIS 3.4 'Madeira’

Step 3: Now Install the software.

Step 4: Now browse your created folder location and hit Next then Install then Finish

Step 5: Please reboot your machine once the installation is completed. Click finish to complete the
installation.

Step 6: Now run the software.

Practical 1: Creating and Managing Vector Data: Adding vector layers,

setting properties, formatting, calculating line lengths and statistics

Step 1: Open a new Project in QGIS Software

Step 2: Create a Shape File Layer

Step 3: Fill in the appropriate details in the dialog box.

Step 4: With the help of the pointer, make an area as you require.

Step 5: You can change the color of the area. Right click on the Malad, go to Properties and
change the color. You can change many things which are given in the Properties.

Step 6: Create a new Shape File Layer for Roads as Line, Bank, School, Buildings as Points
and Garden as Polygons

Step 7: After creating Shape Files for each one them as in Step 2 and 6, make the components
wherever required.

After making all the roads on the Map.

Practical No. 2 – Exploring and Managing Raster Data.

a) Adding raster layers

➢ From menu bar select Layer → Add Layer → Add Raster Layer

b) Raster Styling and Analysis

➢ To start with analysis of population data, convert the pixel from grayscale to
Color.
➢ Select “glds90ag60.asc” Layer form layer Pane → select property OR double click
on it.

➢ Press “APPLY”
➢ Repeat the same for “glds00ag60.asc” Layer

Go to Raster → Raster Calculator

➢ Put the expression "glds00ag60@1" - "glds90ag60@1"

➢ Select the output file location & name and Press OK.

➢ Remove the other two layers i.e. glds00ag60.asc and glds90ag60.asc

➢ Double click on pop_diff layer.

Set Render Type to “Single band Pseudo color”, Interpolation as Discrete, and
remove all classification and add as shown in figure above using button.
After all settings press “OK”.
➢ Layer will appear like

➢ The red pixel shows negative changes and blue shows positive changes.
c) Raster Mosaicking and Clipping

➢ Go to Layer → Add Layer → Add Raster Layer.

➢ Select the following “.tif” raster images for India from data folder.
➢ Press open
➢ In data source manager | Raster window click Add

➢ Go to Raster → Miscellaneous → Merge

➢ Select all layers and Press OK.

Save the file to location with the name

➢ Press Run and after completion of operation close the Merge window dialog box.

➢ You can now deselect individual layers from layer pane and only keep the
merged raster file.

Go to Layer→ Add Vector Layer → Select shape file ➢ From layer properties →
select “Symbology ”→ select any one of the following

➢ Go to Raster → Extraction → Clip Raster by Mask Layer

Select the merge raster image as input and Ind_adm0 as mask layer
