develop our knowledge, skills, ideas, thinking. Practical learning help us to know
about people’s mindset, behavior and that pursue us to do thing very well.

This summer internship training helps us to learn about managerial concept that we learn
from books. But application of this things is difficult how all this done we learn from
company’s real operation that company perform from their resources which are limited
and how they can manage all this things. The training was conducted to understand the
structure, function and processes of various departments and their interdependence. During
the course of our training, we were able to successfully interact with the employees of the
organization, retailers and even the consumers of the product.

Sosyo Hajoori beverages private limited is not only beverage company that provide cool
beverages, soft drink but it also helps to learn organization structure.This training made us
understand clearly the environment of the company, in depth knowledge of all the
departments and implementation of theoretical concepts in the practical world.

The second important department is marketing department. in this department. We study


that what is present segmentation & what should be the coming requirement of the

of occasions, the demand for soft drinks is increasing day by day due to
changing climatic conditions, liking for fast food and changing culture (increase
western culture), It includes all types of non-alcoholic, carbonated and flavored beverages,
These artificially sweetened drinks are available in different flavors, different sizes and in
different packages,

Soft drink is a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), Soft drinks are consumed for various
reasons and in various occasions by consumers based on various aspects like price,
convenience, medicinal value and social status, Developing urbanization, changing food
habits, changing climatic conditions and increasing population will contribute to growth of
soft drink industries in the near future.

The main production of soft drink was stored in 1830‘s & since then from those
experimental beginning there was an evolution until in 1781, when the world‘s first cola
flavored beverage was introduced, These drinks were called soft drinks, only to separate
them from hard alcoholic drinks, This drinks do not contains alcohol & broadly specifying
this beverages, includes a variety of regulated carbonated soft drinks, diet & caffeine free
drinks, bottled water juices, juice drinks, sport drinks & even ready to drink tea/coffee
packs, So we can say that soft drinks mean carbonated drinks.

Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector is the 4th largest sector in the Indian economy
with Household and Personal Care accounting for 50 per cent of FMCG sales in India,
Growing awareness, easier access and changing lifestyles have been the key growth drivers
for the sector, The urban segment (accounts for a revenue share of around 55 per cent) is
the largest contributor to the overall revenue generated by the FMCG sector in India
However, in the last few years, the FMCG market has grown at a faster pace in rural India
compared with urban India, Semi-urban and rural segments are growing at a rapid pace and
FMCG products account for 50 per cent of total rural spending.

E
ven though traditional and homemade drinks will always remain popular,
packaged beverages are gaining traction with Indian consumers who are now
frequently reaching for their more convenient-to-consume counterparts—soft
drinks. While consumption is on the rise, soft drink manufacturers have some distance to
go before they fully capitalize on the opportunity.

Over the past two years, the soft drink industry has seen a value growth of 11% compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) and a volume growth of 5% CAGR. In total, 1.25 billion people
in the country drink 5.9 billion liters of soft drinks in a year. This makes India’s per capita
soft drinks consumption large, but just 1/20th of that of the U.S., 1/10th of Kuwait, 1/8th
of Thailand and Philippines, and one-third of Malaysia’s.

PER CAPITA CONSUMPTION OF DRINK IN LITERS

Driving up per capita consumption of soft drinks in India, calls for decisive action by the
industry to catch up with the growth rate of other fast moving consumer goods (FMCG)
including the food basket, which currently outpace soft drinks (Food CAGR is 9%). Over
years, the soft drinks category has also been affected by issues related to health concerns
and pressure from government policies. However, there have been sporadic efforts to drive
growth in rural areas in recent years, which have received only a tepid response, as rural
consumption levels still stand at two-third of that of consumption in urban areas.

Among all beverages, we see that carbonated soft drinks (CSD) are firmly in the lead,
followed by non-carbonated mango-flavored drinks.

Some segments within soft drinks have seen value growth on the back of price increases,
but consumption trends have definitely shifted over the last three years with growing
preference for health-based drinks including dairy products.

THE THREE GROWTH DRIVERS FOR THE SOFT DRINK SEGMENT

Small evolving segments like dairy may not be sufficient to eitheri drive the per capita
consumption or bring in the desired growth for this category. The first challenge that this
category faces is to outpace other impulse consumption and traditional options available
and clock high single-digit growth in volume. Moreover, the category is dependent on
soaring summer temperatures across the country, and a delayed onset of rain and winter
can affect demand.

T
he journey of Sosyo dates back to India’s pre-independence era. Mr. Abbas
Rahim Hajoori, a youngster of Surat, had ventured into bottling a British beverage
brand. The Indian independence movement was in full swing and the resolve of
consuming Indian goods was at its
peak. In such scenario, this
youngster decided to launch
India’s first homegrown
carbonated cold drink in 1923.

In 1957, this cold drink was


renamed ‘Socio’, to entrench itself
as a social drink from Sosyo Hajoori Beverages Pvt. Ltd. The brand name stems from the
Latin word, ‘Socious’. With passage of time, it was noticed that people called it ‘Sosyo’
instead of ‘Socio’.

Sosyo eventually became a unique brand as India’s first cold drink, befittingly positioned
as, ‘Apna Desh Apna Drink’.

In 1923, a Dawoodi Bohra Muslim teen named Abbas Abdul Rahim Hajoori, who used
to bottle Vimto, a British soft drink, became inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's Swadeshi
movement. He gave up Vimto and started manufacturing a soft drink with a unique alcohol-
like taste which he named 'Whisky No'. It was a hit in Surat, and its popularity spread
beyond the city. The founder died early and his brother took up the reins. In 1957, Whisky
No was renamed 'Socio', to suggest a social drink. But people often spelled it 'Sosyo' and
"it has been Sosyo ever since," saysHajoori.
He proudly shows off a 1962 picture of Jawaharlal Nehru sipping Sosyo during a visit to
Navsari district near Surat. Over the years, through franchisees, Sosyo made its mark in
several parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Porbandar and Baroda. It was also
sold in Goa, Kochi and Udupi, but distribution to those places was discontinued, as
financial problems in the family business made it unviable.

and the premium range of Opener which has rich flavour of pineapple, Ice-cream soda,
Raspberry, Ginger ale, Tonic water, Ginger, Spicy cola and Nimbu soda 100% natural. The
various packing includes 200ml, 300ml. in the glass bottles and 350ml, 500ml, and 1.5liters

History and foundation

T
he foundation was laid
when a young boy in his
teens- Abbas Abdul
Rahim Hajoori began his career
selling aerated drinks made by
various British bottels. Young
Hajoori had the tremendous vision
to prove the competence of Indian
and foreign brands.

It was the vision that laid the foundation of a new era in the Indian soft drinks
industry in the form of Hajoori& Sons which later came out with one of the
phenomenal brand in India-SOSYO.

Since 1923 saw the foundation of Hajoori Sons in Surat, Gujarat, but fate did not
deem to let the founder enjoy the success. The reins were taken over by
Mr.Mohsin Abdul Rahim Hajoori, after
the ultimately demise of his elder
brother. He did not have to look back
since then. With the renewed vigour of
the next generation, the business reached
new heights in the 70’s and 80’s. Today

integral part of our unit should be organic. Our setup supports the organic and
environmental issues at almost all stages in Soft Drink. Our expansion of unit was
inspired by the ‘green factory’ concept.

various departmental stores of UAE, and various other cities of UK, USA, Canada, New

Distribution Network

The entire group sells around 20 lacs crates per annum all over. SOSYO has a market share
of nearly 29% in Gujarat, The entire group services over 95,000 outlets all over catering
through 20+ manufacturing units. The Distribution Network consists of 16 franchises, 4
franchise letters and more than 350+ distributors throughout, which ensures that all the
outlets are served regularly and that nobody is missed even in the remote areas.

the product. Most of the packaging includes up to three level of materials. People
at Sosyo believe that packaging can build brand equity and drive sales. The
packages are buyer’s first encounter with product and it must be capable of turning on or
off. packaging also effects the consumers later product experiences.

Sosyo soft drink comes in a bottle, which is the primary pack. In case of the local
distribution the bottles are being sold directly but for the outside sales its comes in the crates
contents 24 bottles. The bottles are packed by pressurized Crowns. And in the case of
overseas sales they use cardboard box. And its cardboard box content 12 bottles. This
cardboard box is packed into corrugated box contents six dozen boxes.

The use packages with the attractive graphic and logo showing the product information and

TYPES OF MATERIAL HANDLING EQUIPMENTS

T he company uses different types of material handling equipment like Conveyors,


Trolley, Pipelines, Carats, pallets and Trucks. It can be further explained as below:
Pipelines
Pipeline is treated as material handling equipment as it carry and gaseous material. It is
used to transfer the carbon dioxide from cylinder in the manufacturing unit where it is
compressed to make it in the liquid form, then to shift it in the mixer where all the materials
are mixed and then the final liquid is prepared separately is brought from the main syrup
tank to small tank and then to filler machine through pipeline.
In Hajoori pipelines plays important role. It carries raw materials to boilers and processing
of cleaning this pipelines is very fast because switching to one product from another, it is
very important task.
Conveyors
The company has different types of conveyors to
carry the bottles to be processed into different
machines. Right from starting of production process
the bottles are moved to the next process through
conveyor. Company has motor driven conveyor that
has one metallic belt on the rolling wheels and those
conveyor that works on gravity i.e. no electric
motor is needed to run them.
Trolleys
Trolleys are mainly used for transferring heavy
carats with bottles from the store to the trucks. Also when the carats are unloaded from
trucks and moved from one place to another trolley is used. For convenience trolleys are
manually run by workers to carry heavy loads.
Carats
Carats are a very important material handling equipment as it is used to carry the bottles
in the lot of 24. Carats are mainly used for safety purpose so as to prevent the breakage of
bottles. So when the bottles are to be taken from one place to another it is kept in carats and
then taken. It is also convenient to carry bottle in group.

Trucks

Trucks can also be considered as the


material handling equipment as it is used
for transporting finished products. They
carry carats from manufacturing place to
the whole sellers and retailers and also to
the port for the export through steamers

Tenders or Quotations

After finding requirements, the purchasing department has to find the best source to
purchase the materials. Selection of a particular supplier is made after inviting quotations
or tenders from possible source of supply.

Comparison of Quotations

After getting the quotations the next step is to decide amongst the suppliers. The supplier
giving the raw materials at lower prices and with better quality than the other one needs to
be selected.

Purchase Order

The Purchase Order is a contractual agreement with the supplier for the supply of materials.
It is prepared in five copies. They find out EOQ so that the exact amount of the need can
come to know.

Receiving and Inspecting Materials

The receiving department of Sosyo Hajoori Beverages Pvt. Ltd. perform the function of
uploading and receiving of materials dispatched by the suppliers. Then the manager here
verifies the quantity and condition of materials.

Checking and Passing of Bill for Payment

When the invoice is received from the supplier, they are sent for verification. After the
verification the store department of Sosyo Hajoori Beverages Pvt. Ltd. request the
accounting department to make the payment to the supplier.

PLANT LOCATION

Plant Location as we know that the company does the production of the soft drink so the
production is done on mass basis. As the production is done on the mass basis it will have
product layout. So the business requires certain minimum volume. Therefore, it is big
layout. So the number of people required, machine required will be large.

Here in the production process syrup making machine is used from which smoke comes
out so it is placed on 2nd floor. Similarly, the brix making machine is also placed near to
syrup making machine as this machine produce heat.

The company is in the industrial area so this also effects the plant location. As there are
male and female workers and employees there are separated toilets, changing rooms. There
is different water cooler drinking cooler in production, administration, office areas. There
is store room for raw material which is underground of production department.

There is a separate store area for the finished product at the back side of production area.
In the production process co2, citric acid, etc. this gas is dangerous to health so the
production area is separated than other department.

As this is mass production unit some decision is taken in advance regarding layout. The
production process is machine base so in future if new machine is installed then it requires
large space. So all this is taken care. The company has truck and tempo for delivery the
finished goods to the retailers. For these vehicles there is a separate office for finance
department, human resource department, and administration office which include reception
area.

There are many other general factors which affect the plant location. For e.g. if the plant is
located outside the city then the company have to pay octroi for their products, various
taxes, arrange for labor transportation facilities, some cottages and house for their living
and regular storage of raw material but if plant is located within the city they have to pay
less octroi, less transportation expense, 24 hours’ availability of electricity, easy
distribution of goods in less time and availability of raw material.

First it was in Zampa Bazaar but because of problems in transportation and conjunction
they shifted their plant in Hazira Road that is in industrial area. In this area they get 24

STORES FUNCTION

In store function two important procedures are consider. They are material receipt
procedure, material issue procedure.

Material Receipt Procedure

Material receipt procedure begins when the purchase order is placed. The suppliers send
the material within a day or two. Thereafter the material is received and the production
manager is informed. The material received is checked whether it is according to the
purchase order. Firstly the quantity checking is done. Thereafter the quality control
manager checks the quality of the material received and gives information. Sometime there
can be material which cannot be taken for production because it‘s poor quality.

After the confirmation is received from quality control manager, entries for both accepted
and rejected material is done in the register and thereafter all the material is send to the
store. Accepted and rejected material is stored separately. As and when material is requiring
for production it is issued and according the entry is done, rejected material is send back to
the supplier and is replaced. Production manager takes the bill does the signature and after
all the process gets completed payment is done.

Material Issue Procedure

The material issue procedure begins with requirement of production in change. Production
in charge tells the production manager the authorized person and thereafter allows the issue
of material. The entry for the material issued is made in the register and that much stock is
deducted from the present stock of materials.

PURCHASE FUNCTION

Purchase function begins with the preparation of purchase order. Production manager
prepares this purchase order. This purchase order is to the authorized person for checking.
After the authorized person sign the purchase order, order is placed though mail, telephone
or by fax. After receiving purchase order from company supplier checks it with the
availability of material and sends the material within a day or two and informs the company
on sending the material.

On receiving all the material from the supplier, all the material passes through the process
of quantity & quality. After all the material is accepted by the production manager then and
then only the payment is done. Payment is done by cash, cheques or by demand draft. Some
suppliers demand the payment along with the purchase order. So, demand draft is send
along with the purchase order to the suppliers.

Production Planning

First of the entire production plan is not prepared very formally but it is prepared on basis
of daily sales. At the end of the day when salesman returns to the factory after whole day
selling, report to the supervisor of distributor. These include the total number of sold and
unsold carats. The supervisor then calculates and total number of carats that are sold on
particular day of all salesman. He then gives that calculation to the plant manager. Plant
manager then look after it.

Example

If 50 carats of Sosyo are sold on particular days then manager don‘t start the plant to take
production of 50 carats. So he does the stock of 200 to 300 carats of a particular product
and then does the production. The same is followed for the other entire product (Kashmira,
Lemee, Soda, etc.) here the production is done in batch using manner and each batch
contains minimum of 200 carats but in exception case it can be low. Also if there is any
additional order (party order, marriage order, inauguration order etc.) on the basis of this
production plan is prepaid. Such orders are also important because it is in the big lot.

Production process starts with the loading of empty bottles in the washing machine. Before
that empty bottles are taken from the carat and are placed on the
conveyor which reaches the washing machine bottles are arranged
properly and enters the machine in WASHING lots of 10 bottles. In the

compartments. In the 1st compartment all the dust and
sand is removed with plain EMPTY water. In the 2nd compartment the

Final Inspection Stage

After crowning the bottles are checked again whether there is any dirt left. One person
checks the bottles after crowning in light. If any impurity is found the bottle is immediately
disposed off and rests of the bottles are sends at store.

Dispatching is the last process. Here all the bottles are send off to a destination. The

Wastage is here controlled by ETP (Enfluent Treatment Plant). Here the waste
water from the production area comes to a ‘Filter System’ where the water and
dirt are separated through Acid and Base treatment, because of this treatment all
the solid particles gets coagulated.

Then the water is again filtered by RO water plant and the water thus is used for

The term storage management encompasses the technologies and processes
organisations use to maximise or improve the performance of their data storage
resources.In Hajoori and sons raw material like sugar is stored where the sugar
syrup is processed so thus it also becomes easy to use it to make the syrup. Semi
finished goods like the sugar syrup is stored in the container in which it is
proceesed. The syrup is stored in the container for two days till it is fully
used.hed goods are never stored as it directly goes to the market.

In large companies, the inventory consists of thousands of items and a number


of employed to control them. Their salaries and other expenses run into lakhs of
rupees. It has been found from experience that all items include in inventory are
not of equal importance. Hence, more attention must be devoted to the control
of such items. All items are divided into 3 parts.

•A-class of items:

In the “A” class of item the major material consist of 65% of the consumption
value and 25% of total number of items. This item requires strict control over
receipt, storage and issue should be exercise over such items. As “A” class of
items require very less time for inventory but the company maintains low stock
of inventory for all items. The “A” class of the item includes Sugar, Citric Acid,
Sodium Benzoate used in beverage and CO2 used only in Soda. All these items
have major value wise contribution. So are including in “A”‖ class of item.

•B-class of items:

In the “B” class of items the major material consists of 25% of consumption
value and 20% of the total number of item. It includes ascorbic acid (Vitamin
C), Oil Grease, Lubricants, Spare Parts of machine and maintenance cost.

•C-class of items:

In the “C” class of item the major material consists of 10% of consumption
value and 55% of the total number of item include essence (Taste, Color, and
Ordure), Water, Crown and other consumption items.

in a particular department only. Most of the trainees are from the marketing department
also there are trainees from other department but small in number.
The newly employed candidate is given training for the job he is to do. This training is

Firstly, various standards are set up considering all the factors. These factors consist of

Conclusion

There’s great experience to learn as intern. We had learnt organization structure,


organization policy, strategy, department wise roles, accountability to the work, maintain
in discipline, work methodology, departmental authority, main good relation with external
and internal customers, product deferential taste and preference of customers, maintaining
safety aspect of visitors and employees, exact quality checking, quality assurance, variety
of product, buying machinery from Indian brand, proud recognition as Indian product.

Suggestions

❖ Company should have to focus on their whole product line rather than only one
product, if their other product could not help them to generate revenue, they should
stop them.

❖ They should do the market research before penetrate to market. Market research
help them to know about that their product potential customers.

❖ Company has customer base in very particular market because of their brand
loyalty, they have to target customer of different region according to know their
customer taste and preference.

❖ There should be Delay in starting of supply vans from respective depot should be
checked and a proper time register should be maintained.

❖ There should be requirement to adopt an attractive advertisement strategy which


can stimulate the customers and also promotion at different region and area.
