the Lord, the 42 Lambs, and 37
Shepherds and their eight
flock coordinators, with the
support of LSS Team of BLD
San Pablo District and
community members, prayed
together and sang songs of
praise and worship, during
the LSS #9 held on 4-5 May
2019 at UP Open University.
The lambs (LSS candidates),
came from Los Baños, Putho,
Bay, Calauan, Calamba &
Cabuyao communities,
culminating the four weeks of
preparatory LSS Shepherding
sessions. Day 1 began with the Lambs Preparation led by
Ogie and Tess Salvo, Management Stewards, to set the
Lambs into prayerful mood and bring them into God’s
solemn presence.
The LSS seminar started with the Bible enthronement and
chosen LSS Team members proclaimed the word of God
through the various readings discerned for the activity.
Life testimonies about GOD’S LOVE followed, as Couple
sharers William & Cecille Ladub, and Singles Ministry
member Ela Hilario, shared their experiences of the Lord’s
Love for them. Fr. Manny Flores, the LSS # 9 Spiritual

Light, Might and Delight (LSS #9)
God’s Plan & Salvation. “Christ died for our sins and
through the Holy Spirit, He gives us Light, Might and
Delight.”
The afternoon session started with an action song from the
inspired Praise team (Cabuyao Praise Ministry) followed by
the introduction of couple sharers Connie and Bert Noble,
and Roger Mejino from the LB Intercessory Ministry. The
sharers, testified how God helped them and blessed them
with a “NEW LIFE”, despite their weaknesses and
brokenness.
How do we receive God’s gift? (Receiving God’s Gift) -
Fr. Manny shared his dissections of the ‘Prodigal Father’ or
on being ‘Merciful like the Father’.
“God is sure to give you the Holy Spirit if you ask Him
(Luke 11:11). Focus on God and what God is doing to you.
Be open to all the gifts.” Fr. Manny shared the Catholic
view of gift of tongues, a gift to use in prayer.
The Preparation of the Lambs for Baptism focused on
Forgiveness as led by the Mission Stewards Dads & Mariz
Ventura. Forgiveness prayers helped the Lambs recognize
the healing and forgiving nature of God in their lives.
The Celebration of the Holy Eucharist was presided by Fr.
Manny Flores. Baptism in the Holy Spirit followed
immediately, as Kiko and Jeng Reyes, Pastoral stewards,
exhorted the presence of the Holy Spirit to come upon the
hearts of the Lambs, invoking them to surrender all to God.
On the 2nd day, the praise Ministry led the singing of
morning worship songs. After singing “The powerful name
of Jesus”, Fr. Manny discussed “How do I remain in
Christ?”. He discussed “five habits of people who remain in
Christ.” These are (1) Eucharist and the Sacraments, (2)
Prayer - praying the rosary and journal writing, (3) Service -
not seeking recognition, (4) Study - especially the Bible
and spiritual books (5) Community - building up one
another in love.
Fr. Flores explained the significance of Eucharistic
Celebration, the meaning of receiving the flesh and
drinking the blood of Jesus. “The Eucharist is Jesus
himself — remaining, giving and uniting Himself with
me.” When Jesus celebrated the last supper with His
apostles, He offered the bread and wine as a symbol of his

flesh and blood. It was Jesus’s way of saying that: He
wants to continue to unite himself with His people.
Fr. Manny went further in his talk on Remaining in Christ.
He gave a reminder for all how to benefit most from the
Holy Mass. “The best insurance is the Bread of Life not
any form of the existing life insurances. Fr. Manny named
the three great promises: eternal life (“those who eat my
flesh and drink my blood have eternal life”); and (“I will
raise them up on the last day); and (“those who eat my
flesh and drink my blood remain in me and I remain in
them”).
The program went on with the topic on “Growth &
Transformation” with testimonies of couple Ricky and
Precy Battreal and from the Singles, Kristine Reyes. They
shared their life stories of overcoming trials and obstacles
as they discovered the hands of the Lord working in them,
eventually realizing that the events unfolding are the Lord’s
plans to make them better.
Community: The main purpose of “community”, is caring
according to St. Paul, and to build up one another in love
(Ephesians 4:11-16). The critical importance of small
groups is for spiritual interaction, practical help, intimate
friendship. We “build up one another in love” as we pray,
worship, study and serve together. He described the signs
of a loving community: frequent appreciation and praise,
leaders are aware of members problems, activities outside
of official events, and they are like flying birds “breaking
the windstream” — the lead bird breaks the wind for those
behind him.
Quoted from Fr. Manny, “Together in BLD, we are called to
fly . . toward our God given purpose and destiny. Helping
one another attain our goal . . with the strength and
gentleness, of men and women reborn in the Spirit.”
The 2019 LSS # 9 came to close with the Commissioning
Rites of the Lambs and by symbolically proclaiming them
as Salt & Light of the Earth highlighted by the lighting of
the candles by the lambs & the pinning of Doves by the
Shepherds on their respective Lambs, amidst the hugs,
thankfulness and cries of joy. As Rev. Fr. Manny said in
his talk, “As a community, we are companions in Mission
and friends in the Lord”.
In the mighty and delightful presence of God, the
Lambs, Shepherd, co-Shepherds and the whole
Community prayed, sang and danced in the Final
Exhortation and celebration for the Lord, led by Nel & Kim
Bantayan, the Formation Stewards. 

Happy Easter to all of you. The Lord addresses each of us “Be holy, for I am holy” (Lev. 11:44).
Vatican II states clearly that we are called to be holy “each in his or her own way” (Lumen Gentium,
11).
“We are all called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness in everything we
do, wherever we find ourselves.” (Pope Francis, Gaudete et Exsultate, no. 14).
Life presents great challenges. We discover these through BLD Communities and commitments.
Christ lives his life through us and in us. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 521).
I join BLD in welcoming Bishop Rey Evangelista as my Assistant and eventual Successor.
I join you in calling Mary time and time again.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I am pleased to announce to the Bukas Loob sa Diyos Community that the Catholic Bishops Conference of the
Philippines has approved the appointment of Bishop Reynaldo G. Evangelista as Assistant Community Spiritual
Director who will be assisting me and eventually succeed me as Community Spiritual Director of the BLD
Global Community.
Bishop Rey is the present Bishop of the Diocese of Imus. He was installed as the fifth Bishop of Imus on June 5,
2013 by Pope Francis, succeeding Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle, now Cardinal and Archbishop of Manila. He was
ordained a priest on June 19, 1986 and appointed Bishop of Boac, Marinduque on December 11, 2004. He is
currently the President of Commission on Vocations and member of the Permanent Council of the CBCP, the
National Spiritual Director of Mother Butlers Guild, and Vice-Chairman of Pondo ng Pinoy Foundation. Bishop
Rey was my student at the St. Alphonsus School of Theology in Lucena City where he took up his theology.
I thank the Lord that he has accepted the assignment. Let us all welcome Bishop Rey to the BLD Community.
May the Lord bless him immensely in his new task as BLD spiritual director.

The Many M’s of May
“
See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruit;
the blossoming vines
spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling;
my beautiful one, come with me.”
(Song of Songs 2:11-13 NIV)
In countries where there are four seasons (winter,
spring, summer and fall), spring months of March to
May, comes after the winter season. We do not
have summer in the Philippines but often March and
April are considered as summer months when
Lenten season (Holy Week) usually is observed and
in most schools, classes end.
The Philippines has only two seasons, dry and wet,
and the month of May is being awaited for ending
the dry, hot months of March and April. Being an
agricultural country, our farmers and even
fisherfolks are awaiting for the rains of May. Among
lay folks, children are advised to play and take a
bath in May rains as a remedy to their “bungang
araw” (prickly heat). Hence, the month of May is
equivalent to a brief “Spring” season where
“fiestas” (festivities), and Flores de Maria (used to
be Flores de Mayo) processions are some of popular
folk events.
Why is there so much ado with the month of May?
Below is the list of M’s of May.
Araw ng Manggawa (Labor Day). Let us start with
the first of May, we are celebrating the Labor Day, it
is a national holiday in the Philippines. Catholics
venerate this day to St. Joseph, patron of the
workers, a carpenter of Nazareth, and the foster
father of Jesus Christ. St. Joseph was declared as
patron of the universal church by Pope Pius IX in
1870 since he selflessly with the appearance of an
angel in his dream (Mat 1: 18-20), accepted as Mary
who was already carrying Jesus in her womb. He is
also the patron for happy death by virtue of dying in
the arms of Jesus and Mary. Moreover, St. Joseph
represents the Father in the Holy Famiy, the model
of “earthly” fatherhood and masculinity who took
good care of his family and became a model for

Jesus. The novena for St. Joseph is also being
prayed for those seeking employment.
First Mass of the New BLD Spiritual Director. Our
first Eucharistic celebration last May 2, 2019 was
celebrated by our new BLD-SPD Spiritual Director,
Rev. Fr. Philip Atienza who is now Diocesan Shrine
of St.Therese of the Child Jesus Parish Priest and
Shrine Rector. Fr. Philip replaced Fr. Luis “Kaka”
Tolentino, who is assigned to be the parish priest
of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Siniloan, Laguna.
Before his present assignment, Fr. Philip served as
the Diocesan Youth Director of the Diocese of San
Pablo, Parish Priest of St. John the Baptist in Liliw,
Catholic Education Association of the Philippines
Region IV Director, and School Superintendent of
the Laguna Catholic Schools Association. In the
2019 Year of the Youth, our Lord Jesus Christ,
blessed us with a new Spiritual Director who have
been in youth catholic formation and education
mission.
The Marrying (and Birthday) Month of May. Over
30 years of observation (hoping this can be
statistically validated), many of our brothers and
sisters celebrate their birthdays and anniversaries
in May. The altar front is usually overflowing of
celebrators for blessing every first Eucharistic
Celebration in May.
More Lives R enew ed in M ay LSS. The Holy
Spirit renewed (and continually renewing) more
lives through the Life in the Spirit Seminar, which
we conducted for this year on May 4-5 at the
UPOU Centennial Center for Digital Learning.
Mother’s Day. With Virgin Mary as our mother,
we celebrated/ commemorated all mothers on
May 12. The text, FB messages, Viber and other
social media were populated with greetings and
memory sharing of one another’s mother, both
living and those who are already with the Lord.
Midterm Election. W e ex ercised our right of
suffrage on May 13 election of senatorial,
congressional, provincial, and municipal leaders/
representatives whom we pray will serve the
people (1 Tim 2:1-4) . Voting is also a Christian’s
duty (Mt 22:16-21) and we should vote for leaders
who possess good moral characteristics (Matt.
7:15–20; Luke 6:43–45; 17:10).
Mother Mary’s Apparition in Fatima. One of the
apparitions of Mother Mary was in Fatima,
Portugal on May 13, 1946 where she revealed
herself as Our Lady of Most Holy Rosary. The
miracle of the sun, healing of pilgrims and the
three secrets revealed to Sr. Lucia, one of the

Mother Mary’s apparition(s) in Fatima.
Araw ng Magsasaka. May 15 is not a holiday but all
over the Philippines, simultaneous feasts in honor of
St. Isidore of Labrador are being held. San Isidro,
for us Filipinos, is the patron saint for farm laborers.
Most popular feast day celebration like the Pahiyas
in Quezon depicts thanksgiving for a bountiful
harvest in the past year and hoping for plentiful
more in the coming years.
Several miracle stories accounted to the pious St.
Isidore while living and even after death. People
narrated that St. Isidore faithfully attended mass
daily before going to farm work and angels were
ploughing with him, hence, his work could be

The Many M’s of May

Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Capping the
list is the Feast of Visitation where the Blessed
Virgin Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth who at her
old age was about to give birth to St. John, the
Baptist (Lk 1:39-56). During this visitation,
Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, proclaimed
Mary, as the Mother of God when she greeted:
“blessed are you among women, and blessed is the
fruit of your womb” (Lk 1:42).
Indeed the month of May, is Month of Most Blessed
Virgin Mary, our Mother whom Jesus Christ asked as
to behold (John 19:25-27) as we become His
adopted brothers and sisters. In honor of our
Mother Mary, pray the rosary. Likewise, when you
visit the church, before or after the mass, offer her
flowers, just like we do to our own mother. 

Feeding Program for Mabacan,
Calauan, Laguna
The Bukas Loob sa Diyos Catholic Charismatic Covenant
Community San Pablo District launched a feeding
program on March 28, 2019 at Barangay Mabacan,
Calauan, Laguna. The activity was spearheaded by Uly &
Weng Ople, Couple Coordinator of the Bay/Calauan
Community, with the support from the BLD Calauan
Community members led by Asst. Couple Coordinator
Delfin and Tess Corcolon. The program beneficiaries
include 35 indigent children aged 4-8 years old together
with their mother or lola. These children were identified
through the coordination of Dhory Arcillas with the

Pastoral Cluster  Youth Ministry - March 30 Nine members of the
BLS SPD Youth rendered support to BLD Lucena YM in the conduct of

Millennials with Bro Carl Pua (former YM member) as resource
speaker; April 13 YLSS Orientation part 1; April 14 Witness
Development Program; April 25 YLSS Orientation part 2; April 27
Summer Camp - YLSS Orientation part 3 (SNDTP); April 28

Singles Ministry will hold their weekly Saturday WSC with
shepherding of lambs. April 13 Ocular visit to and inquiry on the BLD
covenant house as the SEW venue in September 2019; after the LSS,
the SM will conduct an outreach - outing in June 2019.
 Healing and Counseling Ministry (HCM) Word Sharing Circle is
attended the Mental Health Seminar at St. Lukes Global City. The
HCM assisted Pat Santos in leading the way of the cross last Good
Friday. The HCM members brought misalettes and donated candles,
drinks, food, coffee; HCM will resume pastoral care program for 40
prisoners in May 2019. April 22 WSC was held with Vergel/Judith
Eusebio, Jennet Rasco, Cel Cadiz and Gilda Mangahas. Experiences
