The Ugly Duckling

It was a bright summer afternoon. Mother Duck found a lovely spot under a tree by the
pond to lay her eggs. She laid five eggs. Suddenly she noticed that one of the aeggs was
different from the other eggs. She got a little worried. She waited for them to hatch.
One fine morning, at last, one after another, the eggs began to crack. “Peep, peep.”They
said. All the eggs had come alive. And the ducklings were poking their heads out into the big
world. All broke except one. “Oh what sweet babies I have! What a lucky mother I am, but what
happend to the fifth one?”The Duck was worried.“This last egg is taking such a long time.” She
sat on the egg and gave it all the warmth that it could give. “The would be the most beautiful
duckling of all. Since this is taking so much time to hatch.”
One fine morning, when the egg broke, there came out an ugly grey colored duckling.
“Peep, peep.” This duckling was diffrent from its other siblings. It was very big and rather ugly.
The mother duck was surprised to see her and was very sad. All her brothers and sisters made
fun of the duckling. And they would not play with him. The duckling was very sad. “You are
ugly.” “Look at that ugly little thing on the earth!”
“Yeah, go away. You’re so ugly!” “We will not play with you, you ugly monster.”
“Hahhahhahhaha”They all laughed at him. The ugly duckling was really sad. The ugly duckling
went to the pond and looked at his reflection in the pond. “Nobody likes me. I am so ugly!” The
duckling decided to leave the family and go somewhere deep into the woods. The duckling
wandered all alone in the deep forest.
Soon it was spring, everything was fresh and green once again. Walking and walking, he
saaw a river. He was happy to see the water again. He went close to the river where he saw a
beautiful swan swimming. He fell in love with her. The duckling was ashamed of himself and
bowed his head low. When he bent this head, he saw his own reflection in the water and was
astonished. He wasn’t ugly anymore. He had turned into a handsome young swan. Now he
realized why he looked different from his siblings. Because he was a swan and they were ducks.
He married the beautifull swan that he had fallen in love with, and happily lived ever after.
The moral value of the story is we shouldn’t discriminate people, judging by their
physical appearance. We should respect the solidarity in social differences to achieve harmony
in a life.

Ande- Ande Lumut

Once upon a time, the establishment of two major kingdoms in the East Java region,
namely the kingdom of Jenggala and the kingdom of Kediri. To unite the two kingdoms and
avoid war, a marriage bond was established between Panji Asmarabangun, the son of the king
of Jenggala and Dewi Sekartaji, king of Kediri's daughter.
One day the kingdom of Jenggala was attacked by the enemy.
When the battle took place, Dewi Sekartaji escaped. She disguised
herself as a village girl, and lived with a widowed woman with
three of her daughters namely Klenting Abang, Klenting Ijo, and
Klenting Biru. Dewi Sekartaji was appointed as a child and was
given the name Klenting Kuning.
Klenting Kuning is not treated well. The three adoptive
sisters can only tell, "Klenting Kuning, wash my clothes !!"
"Wash my shawl too!"
Meanwhile, defeating his enemy, Panji Asmarabangun
determined to look for the existence of Dewi Sekartaji. His
bodyguard reported that Dewi Sekartaji was in a village. Then, he
lives in Mbok Randa's house to become her adopted child in
Dadapan village. He disguises himself as Ande-ande lumut who is
looking for a mate.
Knowing the news , Klenting Kuning’s adopted sisters dress
up as beautifully as they can to propose Ande-ande lumut.
"Klenting Kuning, you don't have to come to apply, you're at
home. Go to the river and wash all the dirty clothes! "Klenting
blue command.
Klenting kuning immediately goes to the river to wash.
Suddenly a heron came and gave her a whip. "Go apply for Ande
Ande Lumut so you can meet Panji Asmarabangun in Dadapan village.
And bring this whip! "Said the Crane.
Meanwhile, her mother and three adoptive sisters were
confused because they could not accross the very wide, deep
river. Suddenly, a giant crab called Yuyu Kangkang volunteered to
help cross the river on condition that they had to be kissed by
him.
A few moments later, klenting kuning met Yuyu kangkang at
the river bank. He offers the same services. However, Klenting
Kuning rejected the condition. Klenting Kuning receded the river
by pulling out a whip and strucking the river. Plak..
At Mbok Randa's house, Klenting kuning’s adopted sisters
showed their beauty to Ande-Ande lumut. None of them was chosen
because they have been kissed by Yuyu kangkang. But, he chose
klenting kuning as his wife because of not being kissed by Yuyu
Kangkang. He knew that yellow klenting was Dewi Sekartaji.
Finally, Ande-ande lumut has uncovered his disguise and
merriaged Dewi Sekartaji. They invite Mbok Randa to stay in the
palace. They live happily.

should always be kept in order to create a harmonious
relationship in life. It is a form of national character that
must be maintained in togetherness. Besides, the marriage of
Raden Panji and Dewi Sekartaji to unites the kingdom of Kediri
