LESSON PLAN IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8
November 12, 2018

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 Discuss the nature and background of scrabble;
 Interpret the rules and regulations of the game scrabble; and
 Create a strategy to get high points and to win in scrabble.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:


A. TOPIC: Scrabble
Sub-Topic: Rules and regulation in playing scrabble (including scoring)

Note: (Group play of scrabble may be done on the second day due to time constraint)

A. ROUTINARY ACTIVITIES (5 minutes)
 Checking of Attendance
 Checking of Sitting Arrangement and classroom cleanliness

B. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES (3 minutes)


Activity # 1: Crossword puzzle
1. Teacher will show the crossword puzzle and provide the mechanics.
2. Students must complete the crossword puzzle through answering the hint provided.

3. Using the crossword puzzle and it’s answer, teacher will ask the class what could be
the lesson for today? What indoor game uses a timer, letter, tile, bag and board?

C. LEARNING ACTIVITIES (30 minutes)
1. Knowledge

Scrabble

 A video clip will be viewed


for the introduction of the
lesson.

1. Teacher will divide the class into 5 groups and each group will have a task to
accomplish regarding the video viewed in class:
GROUP 1: Inventor and date of invention/ discovery of scrabble.
GROUP 2: Materials or equipment need in playing scrabble.
GROUP 3: List 3 mechanics of scrabble that is explained the video.
GROUP 4: List 3 mechanics of scrabble that is explained the video.
Note: Group 3 and 4 must coordinate to avoid similarities of rules.
GROUP 5: Scoring policy with consideration of the special/ premium tiles.

Activity # 1 Your turn.
1. Using the same groupings, students will be playing scrabble and with the supervision
of the teacher, students must provide correct scoring for each word made.
2. Each group will have a designated area in the classroom for classroom management.
3. Teacher will remind the class that they must play scrabble with proper and acceptable
behavior. No cheating!

Note: Activity may be cut short to finish the lesson plan for the day. However, it will
be continued by the next day for a more hand- on and worthwhile experience for
students.

3. Understanding
Activity # 2: Group Plan
Direction: After the first game, the team or group will list down their observations in
the game and will plan a strategy to get more score and to win the game.
