Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter will cover the related literature and related studies that have a significant
bearing to the problem that the researchers are investigating. This will also serve as a reference
and clear explanation leading to the fulfillment of the objective to the proposed system.

In today’s modern production, water refilling establishments’ sales and inventory on the odd

Many small businesses bloom on being quick and open to change. This includes the ability to
stay connected, work from any location and keep employees productive when on the road.
Mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, mobile application and GPS devices keep
colleagues in contact and help business owners to stay in touch with customers.

With Smartphone, the user can constantly remain in contact. It is the basis of uninterrupted
networking and connection and can be used both at home and on the go, including also often in
short, successive time frames and when the user must quickly and urgently obtain information.
The most important tasks, motives, and needs for smartphone usage are communication,
networking with other people, and entertainment. [1]

According to Manta’s SMB Wellness Index, more than 80 percent of small business owners use
mobile devices for business at least once a day. More than one-fourth use them once an hour,
17.3 percent use them 10 times a day and 11 percent use them three to five times a day. [2]
Mobile devices are playing an increasingly important role in the future of business. Over half of
U.S. adults own a smartphone and about a third of online consumers only shop on mobile
devices. Productivity and efficiency are the most popular reasons why small businesses use
mobile apps. [3]

The extensive use of smart mobile devices and mobile applications provides new
opportunities for companies. The modern consumer is often referred as to be social, local, and
mobile. Mobile applications are the current money spinning idea in the field of technology. It is
system software that runs on android and smartphones. Mobile application is software built by
the mobile development software for accessing handheld devices like laptop, mobile phones and
enterprise digital assistance etc. Mobile application technology is an integral part of the human
everyday life. [4]

A mobile application is a software application designed to run on smartphones, tablet

computers, and mobile devices. The popularity of mobile applications has continued to rise, as
their usage has become increasingly prevalent across mobile phone users. Public demand of
mobile apps and the availability of sophisticated developer tools, libraries, and frameworks have
made mobile app development easy, fast and productive, wide range of services besides normal
phone functionality such as GPS, mobile games, banking, online ticketing and many more.[5]

A Point of Sale and Inventory System allows a business to effectively track sales, analyze
profits/expenses in detail, maintain inventory, analyze sale trends, as well as allow you to
manage employees and other store operations. In essence, the POS software combines
managerial duties, bookkeeping, and transaction management into a small automated system that
costs far less to utilize as opposed to hiring employees to handle these duties. When updating
from manual processes, the first system necessary is the POS system because it is the core for
business analytics by providing management with access to comprehensive historic sales
information. POS software helps to identify not only daily and weekly POS performance, but
also inventory levels and location, order status, in-stock percentage and warehouse and store out-
of- stocks” [6]

The systems, such as an inventory system, nowadays require heavy security and fast processing
transaction that deal with money, or any other critical deals, may be mishandled when using
manual systems. It is very important to know each transaction is processed, however, the process
when manual method occurs, common mistakes are often to be found and remain to be
unsolved.[7] Human beings have limitations. Everyday transaction cannot be retained in the
human brain for quite period of time without confusions and complications. To avoid this, the
transaction and other important events should be recorded. Such records serve as reference for
future recall.[8]

As inventory play a big role in almost all types of business. Computerizing it help companies
order, count, sell, and maintain different products. Almost all jobs with regards to records can be
manipulated by the computer. Inventory control is today widely recognized as a crucial activity
for a successful business. Today’s highly competitive markets often require companies to
provide high customer service while keeping costs at a minimum.[9]

The advancement of technology has greatly influenced business transactions. With the adoption
of new technologies and the emergence of mobile devices, businesses can improve their
transaction methods. Being online is the new trend due to the vast number of resources that it
provides; people are turning to the internet for fast and easy access to any information. These
days, consumers expect everything instantaneously and for the information to be available at
their fingertips. Even Marketing ideas and strategies are evolving. Considering the growing
market for advertising on the Internet, which reaches thousands of potential consumers, many
that may not have been reached with other conventional marketing methods. Having the ability
to display menus, special promotions, and ordering online offers much more variety and
convenience to consumers and gives the food business owners a competitive edge over his or her
competitors. An online and mobile-based ordering system is a wonderful innovation in food
industry. It can help food businesses in managing orders made by customers. With this system,
the customers can easily order food and ensure that their orders will be prepared then. Ordering
system is very important to those food businesses like fast food chains, restaurants and etc.
because this system can help the transaction of businesses more efficient and productive. Online
food ordering is very useful to the people who do not have time to go for food, and who does not
want to go to market due to any other reason. [10]

Real time ordering and improved efficiency has been the focus of entrepreneurs. As with many
business scenarios, getting rid of paper improves efficiency, reduces human error and allows
information to flow to an infrastructure without a time consuming data input process. There is
also less chance of handwritten orders being misread. [11]

Electronic Commerce is another important part of information technology. It is defined as

primary as the distributing, buying, selling, marketing, and servicing of products or services over
electronic system such as internet and other computer networks. It is an online negotiation
between companies and customer in availing products via the internet. The internet makes
transaction very efficient in saving time and manpower and in minimizing expenses.[]

Accuracy and Security are the most important aspects in monitoring the inventory. The
monitoring is usually done in products, services and employees. [12] The proponents considered
security a feature of the proposed system with the use of user access controls so viewing of these
important sales and inventory records are only allowed the people who should.
