RENEWAL OF MARRIAGE VOWS

PRIEST
My brothers and sisters:
Through the Sacrament of Marriage a man and a woman bind themselves by a bond of love and
thereby create the community which we call a family. The love of a husband and wife must be
total and without reservation if it is to continue to deepen and to grow. It finds its visible
expression in the children which are their love made flesh. Marriage and family life are not
without pain and sorrows, frustrations and temptations, and yet, unselfish love can bring a
lasting peace and joy that far surpasses the difficulties which we daily encounter.
In the presence of God and this community, I ask you now to face each other, join your hands
and renew your promise of mutual love and lasting fidelity to one another.
HUSBAND
I, _______________, publicly renew my total commitment to you, _____________, my wife. I
promise to remain true to you in good times and bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you
and honor you all the days of my life.
WIFE
I, ________________, publicly renew my total commitment to you, _____________, my husband. I
promise to remain true to you in good times and bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you
and honor you all the days of my life.
PRIEST
Please face the altar (God) and pray now together the prayer of God’s blessing.
HUSBAND AND WIFE
Lord God, whose name is Love, once You made our ways meet and called us to found a home
and family. We look back with gratitude on the years You have given us together.
Today, full of happiness, we come back to Your presence. Once more, we pledge loyalty to each
other, and to You and Your Church. Help us to avoid the mistakes of the past and sustain our
love with Your love, that in the ever growing unity of heart and soul, we may reach together
Your unending marriage feast in heaven.
O Lord, bless our family, our relatives and friends and all those who in one way or another are
instruments of Your grace in our lives. Grant that they may always see in us an example of
genuine Christian living. This we pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
THE PRIEST THEN CONCLUDES THE RITE, SAYING:
May the Lord confirm once more the consent that you have renewed before Him and before the
Church which I and the Couples for Christ as a community represent. May His spirit of peace
and love continue to reign in your hearts and strengthen you in all that you do. May God give
you the grace that will keep you united in mind, heart and spirit, so that in unselfish harmony
you may be able to serve Him by your faithful care for one another and for the family that He has
given you. May you accomplish His will in all things so that you may deserve to enjoy together
in heaven the happiness of eternity with our Lord and Savior. And may Almighty God bless you
now and continue blessing your union and your children. In the name of the Father, and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit.
