Reason for selecting the project

Chandigarh tri-city (SAS Nagar and Panchkula) has its share of the international and national
conventions and meetings being hosted in India yet it does not have a international
convention and exhibition center dedicated to this purpose.
The supply in Chandigarh tri-city is characterized by the following:
 Stand- alone convention center like CII northern region headquarters and people
convention centre.
 Five star and four-star hotels.

None of the centres can cater to all kinds of events, some host exhibitions and others host
conferences and banquets. The largest convention hall has a seating capacity of 200 people.
There is a clear lack of integrated convention and exhibition centre of global standards in
Chandigarh tri-city region.

S.A.S Nagar is strategically situated immediately to the south – west of Chandigarh, which is
also an administrative centre for both the states of Punjab and Haryana. The location of the
proposed international airport in Chandigarh within close proximity to SAS Nagar is seen as
the catalyst for growth and a major economic boost to the area.

SAS Nagar, due to its proximity to Chandigarh has been not only accommodating the
spillover of population but also investments from the Union Territory, hence there are a
stream of new proposals emerging in various parts of this town. It is envisaged that with the
up gradation of the Chandigarh airport to international status, it will certainly boost the local
economy with more business opportunities inflow in both the tourist and manufacturing and
logistics sectors. An international airport will open up the Mohali region to the international
arena and with the right marketing strategy, more foreign investments will flow into SAS
Nagar due to its worldwide Punjabi NRI network. Apart from this there are also proposals to
upgrade SAS Nagar as the Central Business District which will facilitate more investments in
the commercial and business sectors.

PROJECT BRIEF

A exhibition complex is generally defined as any property used in connection with a

convention or meeting center, or similar facility, including auditoriums, exhibition halls,
facilities for food preparation and serving, parking facilities, and administrative offices. A
number of states have passed legislation enabling public funding to be used for convention
centers in an effort to attract tourism and businesses to the local economy.

Exhibition Spaces:
In its broadest sense, an exhibition is a display, show or demonstration of something of
beauty, value or particular interest to a targeted audience.
Exhibition halls should have the space, freedom and flexibility to create an exhibition
environment. In any exhibition halls, proper considerations should be given to the movement
of people and also to the moving pattern.
On the other hand, outdoor exhibition spaces are usually located to immediate vicinity of the
exhibition halls. Outdoor exhibition areas can be developed as a flat ground or as an
amphitheater.

Conference Spaces or Auditorium Halls:

Conference halls or Auditoriums are mainly allocated in the exhibition spaces to hold
conferences and/or seminar during the exhibition period. Proper attention must be provided in
designing entry and exit routes.

Multipurpose Halls:
Multipurpose Halls can be used for conferences, exhibitions, meetings, symposiums and
several other events. Multipurpose Halls can also be used as Banquet and/or Event Halls and
sometimes also as Galleries.

Other Important spaces of a Convention Center include:

 Recreational Spaces.
 Gallery.
 Restaurants.
 Administrative Spaces.
 Parking Spaces.
 Landscaped Areas.
