1. Introduction

The DGPS survey of the control points has been carried on 22nd July 2018. This
report describes the adopted methodology for GPS data processing and the DGPS
results.
2. Work Description

The works includes establishment of 8 Ground Control Points (GCPs) and 1

observation on Trig Station Point in the project area (Changunarayan, Bhaktapur
district) with an observation time of at least 40 minutes in 8 GCPs and more than 8
hours in Trig station point. The location of the points is shown in Figure 5.1-5.3.
3. Equipment Used

Three Numbers of L1/L2/GLONASS (PENTAX G6Ti) professional GPS were used.

6. Approach Methodology and Results

General practice of the DGPS processing involves a known coordinate of a reference

point and other control points are established based on these reference points by
differentially correcting the systematic GPS errors. Accurate coordinates of the
reference points should be available. The coordinate could be in WGS84 or accurate
transformation parameter from it to WGS84 should be available in order to process
DGPS data and compute the coordinates of ground control points.
In this project following approaches are adopted;

a) Determination of precise WGS84 coordinates of main points (BASE) in projects

area.
b) Processing of the other Ground Control Points (GCPs) with respect to BASE with
double differences and network adjustment.
c) Transformation of Ground Control Points (GCPs) from WGS 84 to Department of
Survey (DoS) coordinate system using three parameters transformation.

The detailed approaches with data analysis and illustrations are given in subsequent
sections.

6.1 Determination of Precise WGS84 Coordinates

The precise coordinate of Base station point is determined by online precise point
positioning (PPP) services (AUSPOS and CSRS). The coordinate of the main base
station is computed based on more than 5 days observation data using L1/L2 bands.

6.2 Determination of Coordinates of Ground Control Points

With reference to above base station point, coordinate of the Changu trig station
point is determined and other coordinates are determined using GPS observation
with at least 40 minutes at all of 8 control points with reference to trig point using the
GNSS solution Software. The results of the processing are given below;

6.3 Transformation of WGS84 coordinates System to Modified Everest84

The coordinates calculated above are transformed to Nepalese Coordinate system

using the three parameters transformation. The values of three parameters
transformation Modified Everest1830 (Nagarkot Datum) to WGS84 used are as
follows:

Table 6.3: Transformation Parameters from Everest1830 (Modified) to WGS84

Parameters Estimated Value
Translation in X axis (m) 293.1700
Translation in Y axis (m) 726.1800
Translation in Z axis (m) 245.3600

6.4 Coordinates in Modified Everest84 (Nagarkot Datum) coordinates System

The coordinates in Modified Everest84 (based on Nagarkot datum) are determined

using above three parameter transformations and presented in Table 6.4 below.

7 Conclusion

The coordinate of the main base station (KTM1) is computed based on more than 5
days observation data using L1/L2 bands by online precise point positioning (PPP)
services (AUSPOS and CSRS). Coordinates of other ground control points are
computed with reference to Base station point using GNSS solution software by
Trimble Navigation Limited. A total 8 control points has been established in the
project area.
The control points coordinates are also transformed to Nepalese Coordinate System
Modified Everest84 (Nagarkot Datum) from WGS 84 using the three parameters
transformation. These control points are precise to centimeter and can be used for all
project works.
