PEN Subject Title: CE ON THE JOB TRAINING
Prerequisite: Standing 5th Year

A. Subject Description:
Industry exposure of students for them to match school required
competencies and knowledge with the realities and problems of
industry. This may include involvement in industry’s manpower
requirements, development and research concerns, training and
applications of principles, environmental concerns, ethical and
behavioral concerns, decision-making, equipment and materials
management. The student shall prepare a narrative report/thesis
on a topic covered by his/her experiences.
Objectives:
1. To equip the students with a broad foundation on the concepts
and fundamentals of Civil Engineering.
2. To develop the students capability to apply these learned
concepts in CE Design, Analysis, and Construction.
3. To inculcate in the students the importance of lifelong
learning.
4. To develop in the students an appreciation of technology and
determine its use in the advancement of society.

C. Subject Outline and Time Allotment:

DOER ACTIVITY
 Prepares application letter and resume with
picture and submits to the office of the Instructor
 Visits prospective company who will accept
student for Practicum or On-the-Job Training (OJT)
 Requests for letter of introduction and waiver from
1. Student the instructor noted by the Dean after reporting
the Name and Address of the Company and the
name of addressee/contact person to the office of
the Dean.
 Reports to the Instructor for initial orientation and
guidelines.
 Checks if Company is accredited as Practicum or
OJT provider.
- If not listed, advises the student to secure
2. Instructor relevant company date for the subsequent
review of the Dean.
- If listed, prepares letter to be signed by the
Dean.
3. Student  Submits letter if introduction to the company
 Awaits information or notice when OJT will start.
- Within 72 hours after receipt of such
information of notice, submits the duly signed
waiver form and letter-report addressed to
instructor with a copy furnished to the dean
containing the following data:
- Name and address of Practicum or OJT
providers
- Name and position of company to
whom the student reports
- Department/Division/Section where OJT
will be conducted. Name of project or

special undertaking where student will
be involved.
- Date of start of OJT and estimated date
of completion of 240 OJT hours.
- Schedule of OJT.
- weekly, submits progress report containing
similar data stated above plus other significant
information regarding training. This shall be
called the weekly-TRAINING REPORT. (Note:
Dependent on the progress reports submitted
and interview by the instructor of the student,
the instructor may advise the student to change
the company if necessary.
Upon completion of 240 OJT hours :
- Schedule of FINAL REPORT, Selects and arranges
time and date including room which will depend
on instructor’s availability and the audiovisual
aids that the student will use.
- Submits a copy of the compilation of STUDENT
DAILY ACTIVITIES. The COMPILATION will
contain
- Title Page
- Letter of transmittal (application letter,
copy of received endorsement letter)
- Acknowledgement
- Daily Student Activity Report
- Appendix, time card, Certification of
Completion, resume, certificate of acceptance
from the company)
 OJT/Practicum Site visit to the OJT company
 Based on probable number of FINAL REPORT,
announces the minimum number of REPORT that
a student must attend.
4. Instructor
 Posts on Bulletin Boards (student and faculty) the
schedule of presentations.
 Submits evaluation form to the OJT company
 Furnishes the Dean a copy of the Final Report

E. Course Objectives and Relationship to Program


Outcomes:
The students should be able to:
a. Provide a link between the classroom learning and the
experimental application of principles and concepts,
particularly in CE field of work.
b. This objective is to be achieved by providing the student
with hands-on experience in chosen lines of IT work.

Objectives/Program Outcomes
A student completing this course should at the minimum be able
to:
 Have a good feel of the market awaiting for his/her
service after graduation.
 Develop professional and ethical responsibility
 Gain relevant technical training in the industry
 Develop time management skill
 Involve in a project and consequently develop skills in
project management
 Observe and appreciate the various constraints (political,
environmental, socio-economic, etc.) that are affective
the condition of the workplace
 Hone intra-and interpersonal skills
 Have acquired a medium of practical knowledge of CE
applications in the particular area of work he/she had
chosen
 Have performed on his/her own with or without guidance
from his superior, various tasks involving CE work such as
design, experimentation and analysis.
 Identify his/her particular are or area of aptitudes in IT
work

Passing grade will be 70%
Final grade will be Term grade + OJT provider rating all
over 2
FT=(TG+PR)/2

First term grade will be computed as weekly attendance


20%, weekly report 40%, and term evaluation 40%.
FT= 0.2A+0.4WR+0.4TE
Final term grade will be computed as weekly attendance
10%, weekly report 40% and final requirement 40%.
FiT=0.1A + 0.4WR+ 0.4FR
Term grade will be 50% first term grade + 50% Final term
grade.
TG= (FT+FiT)/2
