IV. PROCEDURES

A. Pre-lesson Assessment of Target Skill/s Ask: In what instances do we need to multiply decimals or mixed decimals?

B. Presenting examples/instances of the Pedro owns a rectangular garden. What is its area if the length is 0.85 m and
new lesson (Introduction) width is 0.4 m?

Let’s talk about the word problem.

 What is asked?
( The area of the rectangular garden)
 What are the facts needed to answer this question?
( length = 0.85 m, width = 0.4 m)
 What operation shall we use?
(Multiplication)

To solve for 0.85 x 0.4, follow the steps below.

1. Multiply the numbers as you would multiply whole numbers. Regroup if

necessary.
0.85
x 0.4
0 340
2. Count the number of decimal places in the factors.
0.85 – 2 decimals places
x 0.4 – 1 decimal place
0 340
3. Place the decimal point in the product according to the number of decimal
places in the factors.
0.85 – 2 decimals places
x 0.4 – 1 decimal place
0.340 – 3 decimal places
Note: Use zero as place holder

(The area is 0.340)

C. Teaching/ Modelling ( I DO IT )
D. Guided Practice (WE DO IT )

G. Making generalizations and How do we multiply Decimals/Mixed Decimals?

abstractions about the lesson
In multiplying decimals or mixed decimals:
 Multiply the numbers as you would multiply whole numbers. Regroup if
necessary.
 Count the number of decimal places in the factors.
 Place the decimal point in the product according to the number of
decimal places in the factors.

H. Evaluating Learning Direction: Find the product of the given sets of decimals or mixed decimals in
column A then write the letter of the correct answer from column B

Column A Column B
1.) 9.25 x 0.29 (C) A.) 4.7196
2.) 3.26 x 4.05 (G) B.) 66.1085
3.) 16.25 x 2.38 (E) C.) 2.6825
4.) 12.13 x 5.45 (B) D.) 4.1197
5.) 6.21 x 0.76 (A) E.) 38.675
F.) 3.6935
G.) 13.203
