10. Find the value of 𝑝 for which the points 𝐴(−1, 3), 𝐵(2, 𝑝) and 𝐶(5, −1) are collinear. Also,
find the ratio in which B divides AC.

Section C

11. Solve for 𝑥

4𝑥−3 2𝑥+1 1 3

2𝑥+1

12. The angle of elevation of the top of a hill from the foot of a tower is 60° and the angle of
elevation of the top of the tower from the foot of the hill is 30°. If the tower is 50 m high,
then find the height of the hill.

13. There are three consecutive positive integers, such that the sum of the squares of the first
and the product of the other two is 154. Find the integer which is a multiple of 3?

14. A game of chance consists of spinning an arrow which comes to rest pointing at one of the
numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (see the figure) and these are equally likely outcomes. What is
the probability that it will point at

(i) 8?
(ii) An odd number ?
(iii) A number greater than 2 ?
(iv) Can you determine the probability of prime number 1 in a spinning an arrow ?
15. (i) Name the type of the quadrilateral formed, if any, by the points (4, 5), (7, 6), (4, 3) and
(1, 2).
(ii) If diagonals of a quadrilateral are equal, then we say that it is a parallelogram.

16. A chord of a circle of radius 12 cm subtends an angle of 120° at the centre. Find the area
of the corresponding segment of the circle.
[Take, π = 3.14 and √3 = 1.73]

17. A chord of a circle of radius 10 cm subtends a right angle at the centre. Find the area of the
corresponding
(i) Minor segment
(ii) Major sector.

18. A toy is in the form of a cone mounted on a hemisphere of radius 3.5 cm. The total height
of the toy is 15.5 cm. Find the total surface area of the toy.

19. A tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conical tap. If the height and diameter
of the cylinder part are 2.1 m and 4 m, respectively and the slant height of the tap is 2.8 m.
Find the area of the canvas used for making the tent. Also, find the cost of the canvas of
the tent at the rate of ` 500 per m2 .
(Note: The base of the tent will not be covered with canvas.)

20. A bucket made up of a metal sheet is in the form of a frustum of a cone of height 16 cm
