My Ideal Teacher

Teaching is a noble profession. The teacher is a respected person. Nowadays, many people have chosen the
teaching profession as their career. There are various reasons for their choice. Nevertheless, not all these people
choose to become teachers because they love teaching. Some are forced to be in this profession and not out of
interest. As such, there are not many good teachers in schools nowadays. My ideal teacher must possess many
special qualities that make him suitable for the job.

Students love their teacher as their hero. They would like to follow every word that the teacher says and every
action that he does. The influence of such a teacher on the students is so much that whatever he says is considered
as truth, and whatever he does is considered to be perfect. Therefore, an ideal teacher should have a good
personality and abundant knowledge. He should know the psychology of students and also their individual problems.
Knowledge is ever growing and so an ideal teacher should always prepare his lessons before he enters the class.

An ideal teacher must also love his job. Teaching does not pay well. There are scores of other jobs that pay
much better. Teaching requires the teacher to stand for long periods and conduct lessons to pupils who may be
uninterested, bored, sleepy or just plain naughty. On top of that, a teacher has to set examination, mark them, do
duty as sports or club advisor and perform many other administrative jobs. A teacher has many roles to perform such
as, being teacher, baby-sitter, discipline master, entertainer, event organiser and a dozen of other roles. In such a
situation, a teacher who still loves his job and willingly works at it is an ideal teacher.

Apart from that, an ideal teacher must love children. This is the most important quality of a teacher. He loves
them whether they are smart, intelligent, obedient, naughty, irresponsible or plain hopeless. An ideal teacher should
consider himself as a parent to his students. Every student is to be looked after with affection. He should pay
attention to a backward student as he does to a bright one. An ideal teacher joins his students in co-curricular and
extra curricular activities too. He plays with them, sings with them and is always friendly. The students consider an
ideal teacher a friend, philosopher and guide.

Besides that, an ideal teacher should also feel passionate about his work. An ideal teacher must be devoted
to his work. Only those with an aptitude for teaching would prove to be ideal teacher. It is said that a nation’s future is
shaped in its classrooms, and the man who shapes it is the teacher. A school teacher is said to be worth a thousand
preachers. A good teacher must be willing to work extra hours to coach their weak students, fork out own pocket
money to photocopy extra notes and do all kinds of things that does not profit him. In addition, he should make his
lessons meaningful and interesting so that students look forward to his classes. They try to please him and the only
way to do that is to follow his lessons and complete the homework. When they do this, his lessons make sense.

Last but not least, an ideal teacher inspires his students to become better than what they are. He is responsible
for instilling good moral values in students. He educates them beyond their narrow worlds to become tolerant,
respectful, understanding, curious, responsible, independent and appreciative. On the whole, an ideal teacher helps
students’ build their character. This is indeed important for students when they leave school.
In conclusion, an ideal teacher never stops being a 'teacher' to his students even years after they leave school.
Wherever they see him and whenever they meet him, they will call him ‘Teacher’ with much affection and love. This
is the hallmark of a true, ideal teacher. An ideal teacher gets credit and respect for himself, for his school and for his
country.
