A Detailed Lesson Plan in Technology and Livelihood Education

(Nail Care Services)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. identify the basic nail designs;
2. create the basic nail designs;
3. appreciate the importance of nail designs.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Basic Nail Care Designs (French manicure or Tip design and Elephant Tusk)
Reference: Beauty Care (Nail Care) Services-K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum
Technology and Livelihood Education Learning Module
Pages 107-108
Materials: Printed Pictures, cartolina, plastic spoons, chalk, base coat, colored polish,
top coat, acetone and cotton
Values Integration: In this lesson, the learners can conceptualized the value of nail
care services in their life in the future.
III. Procedure

A. Initiatory Phase/Routinary Activity
1. Opening Prayer
Let’s start our day with a prayer, Student A
lead the prayer.
Let’s all stand, bow our head and feel the
presence of the Lord. Oh God who by the light
of the Holy Spirit did instruct the heart of the
faithful grant us by the same spirit that we may
be truly wise and ever enjoy his consolation
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
2. Greetings/ Classroom Management
Good morning class!
Good morning, Ma’am!
Class, kindly pick-up all the mess under your
chairs and please do arrange it properly.
(The students will pick-up the mess and will
arrange their chairs properly.)
3. Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent?
(The monitor will respond to the teacher.)
4. Review/recall of the Past Lesson
Who can recall our previous topic?
Yes, Student F.
Ma’am our previous topic is the Shapes of the
Nail.
Very good!
What are the different shapes of the nail? And
what have you learned?
There you are, Student G.
The shapes of the nail are oval, round,
stiletto/pointed, squoval, and square. And I
learned that the shape of the nail conforms to
the fingertips of an individual. It also
determines how the fingernails should be styled
during a manicure.
5. Motivation
Class, let us have an activity, entitled “ORDER
OF THE MANAGER.” Let me first introduce
the mechanics. Assuming that I am the
manager of the beauty salon and all of you are
my staffs. When I say Order of the Manager all
of you must follow my order. And if I do not
say Order of the Manager before the order, you
will not follow any order.

B. Developmental Phase/Lesson Proper
1. Activity
Let’s have an activity regarding our topic this
afternoon. And I will group you into four. I
have here two kinds of puzzle. The Rebus
Puzzle and Add Me to Get Me. As a group,
what you are going to do is to derive the
meaning from this puzzle. The group who will
get the answer first will receive the prize.
The first puzzle is Rebus Puzzle and the second
is the Add Me to Get Me.
I will give you five (5) minutes to accomplish
your task. Your five minutes start now!

Ma’am the first puzzle is the French because
French is the Language of France. And the
second puzzle is Elephant.

2. Analysis

Manicure or Tip Design)
How do they differ from each other?

Ma’am the colored nail polish used in the tip of


the nail.

Our topic this morning is the Basic Nail
Design.
Let’s start first with the French Manicure or
Tip Design.
Student B, read the meaning of French
Manicure or Tip Design.
It involves the application of colored polish
over the whole part of the nail except the area
of the free edge.
In what part of the nails can we find the free
edge?

Ma’am at the tip of our nails.

We can find the free edge to the tip our nails.
Class, French Manicure or Tip design is
divided into two Variation.
Let’s start with variation no. 1.
Student E, read the step no.1.
Step no. 1 Apply the base coat and leave for a
few minutes to dry.
Class, what is the base coat and its purpose?
Ma’am, base coat is a clear layer of polish
applied to the nail plate before the application
of colored polish to smoothen the nail surface
and promote healthier nails.
Exactly!
Class, this is how to apply base coat.
(The teacher will demonstrate how to apply the
base coat.)
How about step no.2?
Yes, Student G.
Step no. 2 Apply white or platinum nail polish
and leave for a few minutes to dry.
Class, this is the example of white or platinum
nail polish in the nail. When you are applying a
nail polish you should used only one direction
to make a quality application.

Next, step no. 3.


Yes, Student I.
Step no. 3 Apply colored nail polish from one
side to the other side of the nail following the
shape of the free-edge. Repeat the application

The Step no. 4 is remove the excess polish.

is the orangewood stick.
Exactly!
But why do we need to remove the excess
polish?

We need to remove the excess polish so it will
look pleasant to the eyes and we meet our
standard quality service that our client requires.
Excellent!
And the last step is the Step no. 5 Apply the
top coat.
Top coat is a clear nail polish applied to the
nails after the colored polish to protect from
scratches and chips and keeps them looking
shiny.
And now let’s proceed to variation no. 2 of
French Manicure or Tip Design.
Student L, read the meaning of French
manicure or Tip Design variation no. 2.
French Manicure or Tip design (Variation no.
2) involves the application of white nail polish
or colored polish on the tips and coating the rest
of the nail with a sheer polish.

Variation no. 2 is suitable for the clients who


have a short and moderately long nails.
And these are the steps in giving a French
Manicure Variation no. 2.
Student J, read the step no. 1.
Step no. 1 Apply the base coat and leave for a
few minutes to dry.
How about the step no. 2?
Yes, Student H.
Step no. 2 apply a coat of translucent pink
polish over your entire nail.
This is the example when we apply translucent
pink polish.

Student L, please read the step no. 3.


. Step no. 3 With the use of white or colored nail
polish, draw a thin line over the tip of the nail
following the shape of the free edge of the nail.
Apply second coating if necessary
Using this colored nail polish you need to
apply a thin line over the tip of the nail.
(The teacher will show example of colored nail
polish.)
Step no. 4 Remove the excess polish.
And the last, Step no. 5 Apply top coat.

Moving forward to next basic nail design the
elephant tusk.
Student M, read the elephant tusk.
Elephant tusk is a style that involves the
application of nail polish to create S curve,
leaving a slightly larger gap along the nail
walls.

These are the steps on how to make a elephant


tusk in nail design.
What do you think is the first in elephant tusk?
Yes, Student D.
Ma’am the base coat.
Thank you for your answer but in elephant
tusk, base coat is not the first to apply in the
nails.
The first step is apply white or platinum nail
polish and leave for a few minutes to dry.

How about step no. 2?

Yes, Student M.
Step no. 2Apply colored nail polish creating a
half circle design at the inner side of the nail as
you continue it to form an S.
(The teacher will demonstrate the step no. 2.)
Next is Step no. 3, yes Student R.
Fill up the other side to complete the design.

Why do we need to fill the other side when we


finally form the S?
Ma’am we need to fill up the other side even if
we finally form the S for able for us to
complete the design. Even if we form the S
we’re not sure if the other side is already
complete.

Class, we need to make sure that all sides of
the nail design is complete.
Step no. 4 Remove the excess polish. And step
no. 5 Seal with a top coat.
We are finally done to the first basic nail
designs.

3. Abstraction

1. What is the difference between French


Manicure variation no. 1 to variation
no. 2?
The difference between French Manicure or Tip
Design Variation no. 1 to Variation no. 2 is that
Variation no. 1 is the application of colored
polish over the whole part of the nail except the
free edge. While the variation no. 2 is the
application of the white nail polish or colored
polish on the tips and coating the rest of the
nails with sheer polish.
Awesome!
That is the difference of the two variation of
French Manicure or Tip Design.

2. What nail design would you like to


apply? Why?
The French Manicure or Tip Design because it
is easy to apply than Elephant Tusk. Yes,

Ma’am because those design are elegant and
look pleasant to the eyes.
4. What do you think is the importance of
knowing the different Basic Nail

Ma’am it is important to know the basic nail
design because if we want to have a manicure
service we can easily say the design that we
want.

Ma’am the importance of knowing the basic
nail designs may help us in the future. If we are
going to be one of the staff in beauty salons and
we are a newly hired staff it is important to
have a background knowledge on those designs
that will suit on their fingernail.
Absolutely!
It is important to have a background
knowledge because someday if we want to
have a work. You can apply as manicurist
because you have a knowledge and skills in
manicuring.

4. Application
Class, we are going to have an activity. Same
group again. What you are going to do is to
create the two basic nail designs, the French
Manicure or Tip Design variation 1 and 2, and
the elephant tusk using the plastic spoons. Two
plastic spoons for variation 1, two plastic
spoons for variation 2, and also two spoons for
elephant tusk. You only have ten (10) minutes
to accomplish your task.
