SCHOOL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT


• A system of managing emergencies within the school in order to
prevent them from turning into disasters.
• Exposure to hazard does not automatically result in a disaster as long
it does not exceed the coping capacity of the individual or
community. (INCIDENT)
• The goal of any emergency management is to ensure that the coping
capacity is not exceeded.

• The demand of DRRM and Emergency Management is beyond the
capacity of a single individual, therefore teamwork is required.

MANAGEMENT?
• Not just for compliance
• Must be proactive
• Must be flexible – constantly reviewed
• Must be comprehensive / holistic
• Must be subscribed to by each member of the team
• Must be self reliant. It must function even before help from other
agencies arrive.
• Inclusive
