I. Objectives
A. Focus Skill

Recognize patience, hope and understanding as key roles in healthy family


relationships.

B. Support Skills
1. Determine the meaning of the words through context clues.
2. Illustrate one’s ideal birthday celebration.
3. Watch a video clip attentively and silently.
4. Generalize ideas to narrate important events.
5. Perform a group-differentiated task with emphasis on the character traits
shown by the main character.

II. Subject Matter

III. Procedures
A. Motivation
a. Balloons of Ideas
The students will be grouped according to their birthday month and they
will write their wishes or gifts that they would like to have on their birthday.
b. Group Activity
The students will be grouped into three. Each of them will have a
representative/leader to pick a task for them.

Group 1: Paint Me
The students will paint their ideal birthday celebration.

Group 2: Draw Me
The students will draw their ideal birthday celebration.

Group 3: Collage Us
The students will make a collage of their ideal birthday celebration.

B. Pre-reading

a. Matching Type
The students will read the sentences below and match the
underlined words to the picture inside each gift.

1. She will arrange the plates and utensils in the paminggalan.


2. A buyo, a leaf used to wrap beetle nut by the elders, tastes good.
3. One of the women wears panuelo as their scarf.
4. My mom gave me camisa to be worn under my barong.
5. My family and I live in Nipa house.

C. Reading Proper
1. The teacher will present the story entitled “I Shall Have Other Birthdays”.
2. The students will watch a video clip of the story.
3. Comprehension Check:

Carousel: The class will be divided into five groups. Each of them will go
around the five stations inside the classroom. They will be given 30 seconds
to read and answer the questions posted on each station. They will go back
to their respective seats and will recite their answers. The group with the
best answer will be chosen to post their answer on the board.

a. Who are the characters in the story? Describe each.


b. What problem was introduced in the story?
c. How did Emilio react on the situation?
d. If you were Emilio, would you have done the same? Why or why not?
e. Did Emilio deserve to be happy on his birthday? If yes, what can you do
to cheer him on his birthday?
4. Describe Me
a. What character traits were shown by Emilio when he wasn’t able to
receive his gift?

D. Post Reading Activity


a. Differentiated Task: The students will go back to their respective groups.

Group 1: Dear Diary


The students will write a diary entry about Emilio on how he feels
after the event that happened.

Group 2: Second Chance


The students will be given a chance to create their own ending for
the story.

Group 3: An Unforgettable History Lesson


The students will write the lesson that they have learned from the
story and put them into a time jar.
E. Valuing
The teacher will let the students watch a video clip.

1. What happened in the video clip?


2. Why does the second daughter get mad?
3. How is the video clip related with the story?

F. Generalization
One representative from each birth month will recite the wishes/gifts
written on their balloons.

What if your parents can’t afford it? Will you get mad at them? Why or why not?

IV. Assignment
A. Diary: What values have you learned from the story? Write a letter to your parents
in appreciation to all the things they have done for you.
