Quilted Round Makeup Bag
Your Supplies
 1/2-yard cotton fabric
 12″ Zipper
 1/2 yard batting or heavyweight interfacing (used for center and top/bottom circles)
 6″ x 20″ lightweight interfacing (used for inside pocket and strap piece)

Cut out all the pattern pieces (scroll down for pattern).

*** I used both batting and interfacing on this tutorial but realized that made the bag slightly too
sturdy for my preference. I would recommend only using batting or heavyweight interfacing.

The height of my bag was about 6″. You can increase the height of the center portion if you want to
make it taller. I would base this on what you want to put into your pockets. If your brushes are about
8″, I would make the bag 9″ or if you just want to put lipsticks in the pockets, then keep it at 6″.

Let’s start with the center portion.

Layer the batting in between the two fabric pieces, right sides together and sew all the way around
forming a tube, leaving one short end un-sewn. (Again, please ignore my black interfacing. You really
don’t have to use interfacing if you don’t want the bag super sturdy)

Turnover and iron down neatly.

Fold in the side that you left open about 1/2″ and topstitch closed.

Now take it to the machine and quilt it doing long stitches about 1/2-1″ apart.
Now take your pocket piece and sew right sides together only on one long side. You can use light
interfacing in the center. Fold over on the edge that you sewed and iron down. Zig zag or serge the
short ends closed.

Now take your pocket piece and mark (not sew) vertical lines of where you want all your little pockets
to be. I wanted some big ones for blushes and some for lipsticks so I measured accordingly and
marked my lines base on how wide I needed my pockets.

Next, take your piece and center it over your quilted center piece. Pin the short ends together and
starting from the top of your pocket piece, sew down on your marked lines. Zig zag or serge the
bottom of the entire piece.
Repeat the same steps you did for the center piece to make your top and bottom circles. Sandwich
batting in between two pieces, right sides together, turn over and top stitch closed.

Let’s make the strap. Fold in the sides of the two pieces about 1/4″, fit in the light interfacing in the
center, sew sides closed.
Take the strap and sew the short ends to each side of your top circle.

Next, let’s attach the zipper to one of the circles. It doesn’t matter which side the zipper is on. You
will put the zipper facing down on the top or right side of the circle (the top/right side is where your
strap is). This way, you are sewing right side of zipper to right side of circle.
This is what the back of that circle looks like.

Here is the top of the circle with the zipper on.

Now, take your circle with the zipper and lay it on the middle of the center piece. Pin all around the
circle lining up to the edge of the center piece. You want to pin on the side that DOES NOT have the
pockets.
Sew the circle zipper piece on the center piece.

NOTE: Another way to do this is to sew the center piece closed first by sewing right sides together,
then fitting the circle into the side and sew down.

Now, fold in the sides of the center piece and sew closed right sides together. Zigzag or serge your
ends.
Open the zipper before starting the next step.

Next, pin the bottom circle on the bottom of your center piece. You have to sew the circle to the right
side (side without the pockets) of the center piece.

Turn how project inside out.

Enjoy.
