 Age 18 years or older.
 Diagnosis of type 2 diabetes as
defined by WHO for at least 1 year.
 Treatment with insulin with or without
other glucose-lowering therapy.
 Treatment in intensive care unit.

P (Population) Participants from general wards at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
I (Intervention) Closed-loop insulin delivery without meal-time boluses is effective and safe
in insulin-treated adults with type 2 diabetes in the general ward.
C (Comparison) Single-centre, open-label, parallel-design controlled trial.
O (Outcome) We investigated the effi cacy and safety of automated closed-loop insulin de
livery without meal-time boluses compared with conventional subcutaneous
insulin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes in the general ward.
