Conflagration History In Banaybanay

Legend has been told that at the very beginning, ten families settled in a plain

untouched forest. Sensing the fertility of the soil, the pioneering settlers tilled the land

and planted corn and other variety of crops. The settlers had witnessed the growing

corn plant that bore vigorously bunchy burly corn (banay) and fruits which eventually led

to a bountiful harvest. The group then decided to name the place as Banay (which

means family) with the bunchy burly corn crowns (banay), thus Banaybanay. The place,

which was then a forest, became a heaven-down dwelling for the pioneering settlers

and for the present inhabitants who ventured and settled into this developing barangay.

In the year 1966, Congressman Lorenzo Sarmiento of Davao passed a bill in Congress

creating Banaybanay into a Municipality. He proposed the separation of Banaybanay

from the Municipality of Lupon. Unfortunately, the bill was not approved by the

lawmaking the body. Congressman Constancio B. Maglana revived the bill in 1968, this

time the bill finally passed both the legislative chambers and became R.A 5747 on June

21, 1969. This brought about the existence of the municipality we now call Banaybanay.

The Banaybanay is peaceful place. Many people visiting in this place. Banaybanay was

primarily inhabited by the Mandayas in the uplands of Causwagan, Panikian and

Mahayag, and Kalagans in shorelines and the mouth rivers of Piso, Pongoton,

Mogbongcogon and Maputi which they have a strong settlement and a Muslim

governance on that area leads by a Datus or Imams.

Around the 1800s before Uyanguren arrived in the Davao, there was a strong

community of the Kalagans (Kagan) in the Piso which was led by a chieftain named

Datu Panayangan. Their dwelling was along the Piso River along with his people who

lived there peacefully.

The story of the arriving of the Kallaw people from Samal Island is very well known

especially among the Kalagans of Banaybanay. They arrived in the Piso to settled there

along with their Kalagan Brothers on the permission of Datu Panayangan. The Kallaw

chieftain named Datu Lamaran reconciled to Datu Panayangan to settle the swampy

place of Piso which later was called Barrio Pongoton from the word pangotanan which

means a place of abundance of fish and crabs to catch.

But many people break the regulation or policy in this province. Some people need

money for everyday life, but suddenly they are using or abusing . They didn’t strive for

them self , One time …….

PASLANGAN, and the other source is the TANOD group.

Meron

kasing meeting na dapat pag usapan

pagkatapos ng lahat nag bigay sila ng

pagkain, damit, kunting pera, libreng

Puro lungkot, galit, iyakan , pagkamuhi at

Patuloy paring

bayan.
