Attributes Google Fit Strava App
Company Google Developers Stava, Inc.
WeRun is a mobile application where it tracks and records the physical fitness
activities of the users with steps counting using phone’s pedometer or accelerometer
in order to motivate people to do exercise by giving them rewards as well as to
encourage them to have social interactions by allowing them to connect to social
media to invite their friends to join along as for the purpose of increasing the PA level
of urban residents.
3.0 Idea Generation
3.1 Force Fitting Triggers
1) Christmas Tree
The idea of rewards app is mainly come from the idea of Christmas tree. During
Christmas, parents will tell their children to decorate the Christmas tree as beautiful as
they can in order to get a great Christmas present from the Santa Claus. Everyone
regardless their age and gender will have a sense of expectation towards the gifts. As
to get the presents, children are motivated to decorate the Christmas tree as beautiful
as they can. This scenario can be implied in WeRun. Users need to work hard in terms
of exercise to collect their steps counting in order to redeem fantastic rewards and
gifts. Rewards is a key where it motivates users to exercise more to get the gifts and
rewards that they expected and wanted.
2) Obesity people
Obesity, a common health issue that is faced by every country from past until now.
No matter in urban or rural regions, there is always a number of people is having
health issue due to obesity. Obesity can bring a lot of consequences to the people such
as laziness, diabetes, or heart diseases. Despite of this, people still ignore the
consequences brought by obesity and continue their high consumption of calories. To
prevent and rectify this issue, WeRun is proposed to deal with such cases where it
encourages people to exercise to reduce the chance of getting obese in which it
provides plenty of rewards to people. On the other hand, it also serve as a platform
that enables people to do branding by giving out or sponsoring freebies, coupons,
vouchers, et cetera.
3) Coin
(i) Boolean
(ii) One-sided result
(iii) Win or Lose
(iv) Betting
Figure 5: Coin
A coin has two-sided, can either be head or flower. Tossing a coin is one of the
traditional method to make a decision in which it is similar to side-betting. For
instance, a coin will be tossed by the referees to decide which team will get the right
to serve the ball first. In the case of WeRun, the attributes of coin is taken into
consideration in which the user can choose to bet for a challenge that is set in the
system. Users have to input a deposit into the app beforehand, if they are able to
complete the challenge within the time period, they are not only able to take back the
deposit but also get additional prizes such as coupons, vouchers, free gifts, and so
forth. Else, the deposit will be confiscated as penalty and there will no rewards at all.

4.2 Product Description
Availability to Purchase
WeRun is a mobile application where it is free to use by every users. This application
will focus more on Asia countries like Malaysia and Singapore. The target audience
of the application will be the urban residents of the country.
Functions
The major function of WeRun is to allow users to get rewards by using their steps
counting. Other than redeeming rewards, users are able to share their experience and
rewards or even their activity plans through social media to invite more friends to
exercise with them as a companion. Moreover, WeRun also share the upcoming
events that will be carried out in the countries. This helps the organizers to promote
the events and increase the exposure of the event as well. In order to motivate users to
exercise more, a betting function has be implied as to attract more users to join the
challenge.
Frequency of Usage
Technologies
The technologies that has been used for WeRun is GPS technology, real-time
technology and Application Programming Interface (API). GPS technology is used to
locate the users as well as to let the users to know their running route. Real-time
system has been used for social sharing as users are able to interact with their friends
when both of them are online. API is used to specify how the software elements
should interact. For example, WeRun is a mobile application and it requires the usage
of the Internet. When users wish to perform some activities, it will sends the data
from mobile phone to a server. The server will retrieve and interpret or analyze the
data then send the data back to the mobile phone with the information users want in a
readable way.
Comparison
As compare to Google Fit and Strava, who provides platform for users to monitor and
record the fitness data, WeRun is more innovative and creative as it has the same
function of both application but it also acts as a platform which it allows users to
redeem rewards by using their own fitness data, steps counting. This will motivate
users to exercise indirectly. Nowadays, browse social networking sites has become a
habit for most of the people especially people in urban areas. However, Google Fit
does not allow users to interact with other users as it does not have the social sharing
function. This will affect the user experience directly as they are not able to share and
interact with others. WeRun has solve this issue as it allows users to interact not only
in the application itself but users also able to share their experience to other social
media platform such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and so on.
5.0 Market Identification
Product
WeRun is a workout application as well as a reward application. It is used to motivate
the users to exercise as to increase the physical level of the people especially for the
urban residents as to reduce the rate of obesity. Users can redeem the rewards that is
available in the application through their steps counting. Moreover, betting system is
provided to increase the interest of the users as to join more challenges and achieve
their goals. Apart from that, users can share their experience and invite friends to
exercise together via social media. In addition, users are able to view their running
records as well as the history of participating the events and the challenges via
WeRun.
Place
Since the mobile application is still new to the market and the company is based in
Malaysia, the application will firstly promote in Malaysia and will focus more in
Kuala Lumpur city as it is the biggest urban areas as well as metropolitan area of
Malaysia. In order to promote the application to the public, the company choose to
spread the message via commercial on every radio stations. This is because 97% of
Malaysian which is 202 million of them tune in radio and out of this 202 millions of
listener, 89% of them which are 1.8 million of people are residing in urban areas
(CommercialRadioMalaysia, 2018). Besides, the company will also make banner
advertisement in Facebook platform as 79.93% of Malaysian have a Facebook
account (GlobalStats, 2018). The company believe that this will increases the
awareness of the public on WeRun.
Promotion
The company can offer the event companies or the event organizers to promote their
events in the Upcoming Event page for free at this moment (since WeRun is still new
to the market). Furthermore, the company can bargain with them as to put a booth for
free during the event period as to promote the application as well. This will be a
win-win situation for both parties because WeRun helps them to boost the exposure of
their events and at the same time the application can be promoted to more people
during the event too. Moreover, in order to give rewards to the users, the company
need to find merchants to invest to the application by giving free coupons and
vouchers of their products. As to attract more merchants, promotions can be offered to
the merchants in which, once the application has reached millions downloads, the
merchants that sponsored now will be given chances to post their products on WeRun
platform for free for three months term. The company believes that by doing so, more
merchants will get attracted as this reduces the burden of the advertisement fees and
increase the exposure of their products.
Price
Even though the application is free to use for the members, it will gain revenue from
the merchants. When WeRun have been exposed to a large amount of users and gain
millions downloads, merchants will ask to post advertisement at this platform as to
promote their products. By this time, advertisement will be charged by the size and
the total time they want to be displayed. Moreover, the company can gain profit via
betting system. This is because users are required to use real money for the betting
function, if users loss, the company can forfeit the betting fees of the users; as if the
users win, company will not lose money as the prizes that give to the users are the
prizes that is sponsored by the merchants. It does not require any cost from the
company.
6.0 Idea Evaluation
6.1 Swot Analysis
Strengths Weaknesses
Motivates users to exercise Cannot be used without the
Increases level of physical pedometer
activity Will be battery-eating
Decreases the rate of

Opportunities Threats
Can be used globally Competitors catching up
community.
Summary
The SWOT analysis above shoes WeRun will motivates users to exercise as well as
increases the level of physical activity and reduces the rate of having diseases like
obesity, heart disease and et-cetera. Moreover, it also provide mutual benefits to both
merchants and organizer as it provides a good platform for the to promote their
products and events. Besides, WeRun can use to determine the point of interest of the
users in which to detect where is the popular place for the users to exercise.
In addition, WeRun can be used globally and it gets to benefits the people around the
world. In fact, it gives the opportunity to cooperate with healthy and organic merchants
as well as event organizers and gym merchants.
Every idea has their own pros and cons, same goes to WeRun. Since WeRun is a mobile
application and it requires steps counting, pedometer is important. Hence, application
cannot be used with the absence of pedometer. Next, since the application requires
users to use Internet and GPS system, it will be battery-eating and the mobile phone
will be heated.
Among the threats identified are competitors catching up and will face issue if no
merchant wish to invest to the application. The company requires huge amount of funds
to prepare for the rewards if there is no merchant willing to sponsor.

Summary
The reason of choosing Force Field Analysis as idea evaluation method is because it
is a technique where it checks the feasibility of an idea implementation by looking all
the forces for and against a decision. Every idea has its own pros and cons. Based on
the analysis above, WeRun is designed to encourage people to exercise to reduce the
risk of getting diseases and increase the health index directly. Apart from that, WeRun
can help to elevate the exposure of certain sports event and merchants’ products as
well. Last but not least, it able users to interact with other users too. In contrast, some
of the people might just fake for the steps counting to get the rewards and might
dislike and made complaints on the available rewards. Moreover, it is undeniable that
discrimination does exist and some of the people might laugh at the obese person
when they are using the application. By social sharing, it might expose user’s own
position and might be misused by others and putting danger in own-self. Furthermore,
in order to utilize this application, users are required to have mobile devices or smart
devices that has pedometer. Hence, the hardware cost increases.
7.0 Conclusion
In conclusion, to fully implement this system might face some hindrances during the
developed as it requires a lot of expertise, resources, strategies and so forth to develop
a complete, functional and efficient system. For instance, this system is required to
perform in real-time, as well as compatible with GPS technology. To include these
two technologies, this system requires expert to work together and exchange their
expertise during the development as any mistakes or error may cause all of the private
data stolen by unauthenticated users. Not only technology needs to be emphasized, the
architecture or infrastructure of the system needs to be planned carefully to ensure
security, efficiency and many more. For instance, what are the architectural
components within the system, what processes will be involved to do certain task, et
cetera. Any negligence will lead to system failure such as if the main server is down,
is there any replacement server to temporary server to support the system? What is the
component will be used to ensure the uptime of the system? Last but not least, this
system is proposed to help resolving the issue of obesity in every country, whether it
is effective or not, it is depending on the user itself.
