1.2.2 Contractor shall be solely responsible for advising the Purchaser in writing of any
conflicts between the specifications and Contractor's design, including
performance and levels of quality. Contractor agrees that his obligations,
liabilities, and warranties shall not be diminished or extinguished due to his
meeting the requirements of the specification.

2. CODES

2.1 Supports and attachments for all piping systems included under the jurisdiction of
ASME or ANSI Codes shall be designed and fabricated in accordance with the
requirements specified therein, as follows:

a. ASME B31.1 piping systems: Per ASME B31.1 (except supplementary support
steel).

b. ASME Section I piping systems: Per ASME B31.1 (except supplementary support
steel), and for support attachments welded to piping per the applicable
requirements of ASME Section I.

2.2 Supports for all piping not under the jurisdiction of the ASME Codes shall be in
accordance with the applicable requirements of the AISC Specification for the
Design, Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Building and AWS D1.1 –
Structural Steel Welding Code.

2.3 All supplementary support steel including stiffener angles and connections to in-
place building structural steel that is not under the jurisdiction of ASME Section III,
Subsection NF, shall be in accordance with the AISC Specification for the Design,
Fabrication for the Design, Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Building
and AWS D1.1.

2.4 Use of proven standard industry practice, as covered by MSS (Manufacturers

Standardization Society) SP-58 and MS SP-69, for hangers and supports is
acceptable only insofar as it conforms to the criteria and limitations of the other
applicable Codes referenced above.

3. DESIGN

3.1 The supports shall be designed to meet all static and operational conditions to
which the piping system and connected equipment will be subjected. These
conditions shall include hydrostatic test loadings, thermal expansion and
contraction, seismic shock loading, impact, vibration, overloading, spring failure,
erection loading, pressure thrust and fluid momentum (for open discharge
systems), and (for out-door locations) wind, snow, and ice loadings. Code,
seismic and safety classifications, and other necessary data will be defined in the
Project Specification. For supports specified to be designed in accordance with
ASME B31.1, the loads should not be based on increasing the allowable stress
level in hanger components by 20%, as allowed for piping in Paragraph
121.1.2.A.1 of the code.

3.2 The materials and fabrication of all supports that are to be furnished by Contractor
and that are detailed on the Purchaser drawings shall be in strict conformance
with such details. However, Contractor shall check design data furnished to him
and shall indicate on the drawings returned to the Purchaser all modifications
recommended by the Contractor. Contractor shall fill in the bill of material
tabulation in the spaces provided, indicating weight of support, correct total
loading, and any/all other necessary data, where not complete by the Purchaser.

3.3 Where supports are not designed and detailed by the Purchaser, Contractor's
supports designer shall analyze and determine the piping loads and movements
that will exist ay any time, including all applicable forces acting simultaneously,
and shall design and detail the supports in accordance therewith. The
temperature of piping to be used in the design of supports therefore will be
indicated in Field (Column) 4 of the Piping Line List (if Piping Line List is included
as a part of the Project Specification) or will be indicated in the Project
Specification. Consideration of piping movements shall not be made before the
maximum temperature of such piping is indicated.

3.4 Where special wall piping is involved, supports for same shall not be released for
fabrication until the actual dimensions and weights of such piping have been
determined and listed in the Project Specification or on the drawings. Dimensions
and weights of special wall piping listed in the Project Specification or on the
drawings are actual, unless specifically noted otherwise (see Subsection 1.4.2
above).

3.5 The type and thickness of insulation will be indicated in material list (bill of
material). The thickness given is nominal and includes the insulation jacket or
covering which shall be assumed to be negligible unless otherwise noted. The
weight of the insulation will be indicated in the Project Specification and/or
drawings and is a nominal figure for the insulation and jacket or covering, unless
otherwise noted. Release of supports for fabrication shall not be done before the
thickness and weight of insulation are indicated.

3.6 As a general guideline, Contractor shall strive for a minimum clearance of

approximately 6 in., as far as practical, for all system in both hot and cold
positions between supports and any obstructions. For systems where thermal
growth will occur, sufficient clearance shall be provided to prevent interference
between supports and surrounding equipment during this growth.

quality. Tools shall be shipped to the job in a suitable, separate container clearly
marked with the name of the equipment for which the tools are intended. These
tools shall not be used for erection purposes and shall be delivered to Purchaser's
storeroom.

9. ERECTION, ADJUSTMENRS, AND FIELD WORK

The erection of Supports on field will be done by I.E.C. The contractor.

The following requirements apply to the erector of all piping supports, regardless
of who furnishes the supports:

9.1 Perform all field fabrication, assembly, and installation required for the piping
supports. Installation shall be done without damaging or altering structural steel.

9.2 Design and locate all piping supports required for field-fabricated and/or field-
routed piping, unless otherwise indicated, including any special supports required
for small piping.

9.3 Make all adjustments and readjustments necessary on the piping supports
erected by Contractor during erection, after piping systems are leak-tested and

during and after preliminary operation of the piping systems, including the
following:

9.3.1 Insure that all the temporary locking devices or stops are engaged and maintained
thusly on all constant- and variable-support spring units, until the piping systems
are placed in service, except during such time of checking and making
adjustments on the supports. The temporary locking devices shall be engaged
during fillings, testing, and draining of the piping systems for hydro test.

9.3.2 After erection of piping and associated supports and before preliminary operation
startup:

a. Adjust all supports for proper tension or loading and set all travel indicators to cold
mark.

b. Check and (if required) adjust the travel stops on spring-type units.

9.3.3 After startup of piping systems and normal operation has been attained, check all
supports for proper tension (or loading) and movement, and check that all travel
indicators are on hot mark setting.

9.3.4 After shutdown from preliminary operation and after piping systems have returned
to cold condition, check supports and record any changes in cold setting from
those specified under Subsection 9.3.2 above.

9.3.5 Examine each restraint and guide, in both the cold and hot positions, to verify that
pipe can move freely, and adjust if required. Were restraints or guides cannot be
observed in the hot operating conditions, actual measurements of the cold
position of the pipe with respect to the restraint or guide shall be recorded; these
measurements shall be compared with those shown on the design drawings for
the purpose of verifying the adequacy of clearance for the piping movement.

Note: Special care shall be taken when adjusting spring-type units so that the
amount of compression in each spring is in accordance with the load to be taken
by the support.

9.3.6 Prior to startup and operation of the piping systems, Contractor shall remove all
temporary locking devices or temporary stops on all spring-type units and attach
them to their units.

9.4 All materials and fabrication for field work shall be in accordance with the
applicable requirements specified above in Sections I through 8.

9.5 Final settings of each support shall be inspected, recorded, and certified as to
meeting the requirements of the applicable codes and Project Specification. An

affidavit shall be submitted to Purchaser and the Purchaser attesting to these

requirements.

9.6 Piping support erector shall refer to Subsection 3.18 above for specific
requirements for erection of supplementary support steel and for erection of
supports from existing structural steel members.
