ELECTRONIC MUSIC

The capacuty of electronic machines such as Synthesizers, amplifiers, tape recorders, and
loudspeakers to create diffirent sounds was given importance by 20th cetury composers like Edgard
Varése, Kerlheinz Stockhausen, and Mario Davidovsky.

Music that uses that tape recorder is called musique concrete, or concrete music. The composer
records different sounds that are heard in the environment such as the bustle of traffic, that sound of
the wind, the barking of dogs, the strumming of a guitars, or the cry of the infant. These sounds are
arranged by the composers in different ways like by playings the tape recorder in its fastest mode or
in reverse. In musique concrete, the composers is able to experiment with different sounds that
cannot be produced by regular musical instruments such us the piano or the violin.

ELECTRONIC MUSIC

-is music that employs electronic musical instruments, digital instruments and circuitry-based music
technology. In general, a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical
means (electroacoustic music), and that produced using electronics only.[1] Electromechanical
instruments include mechanical elements, such as strings, hammers, and so on, and electric elements,
such as magnetic pickups, power amplifiers and loudspeakers. Examples of electromechanical sound
producing devices include the telharmonium, Hammond organ, and the electric guitar, which are
typically made loud enough for performers and audiences to hear with an instrument amplifier and
speaker cabinet. Pure electronic instruments do not have vibrating strings, hammers, or other sound-
producing mechanisms. Devices such as the theremin, synthesizer, and computer can produce
electronic sounds.[2]

SYNCHRONISMS No.5
Edgard Victor Achille Charles Varèse (French: [ɛdɡaːʁ viktɔːʁ aʃil ʃaʁl vaʁɛːz]; also spelled Edgar
Varèse;[1] December 22, 1883 – November 6, 1965) was a French-born composer who spent the
greater part of his career in the United States.

POÉME ÉLECTRONIQUE
EDGARD VAÉSE

Varése’s use of new instruments and electronic resources made him the "Father of Electronic
Music" and he was decribed as the “Stratospheric Colossus of Sound” his musical compositions total
around 50, with his advances in tape-based sound proving revolutionary during his time. He died on
November 6,1965.

ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT
-An electronic musical instrument is a musical instrument that produces sound using electronic
circuitry. Such an instrument sounds by outputting an electrical, electronic or digital audio signal that
ultimately is plugged into a power amplifier which drives a loudspeaker, creating the sound heard by
the performer and listener.
