1. How will you characterize a country that is exercising democracy as a form of
government?
2. What are the reasons why they need to put up a form of government?
3. How does democratization help the people of today’s generation?

Video Presentation. The teacher will let the students watch a video clip regarding
the modern-day society.

1. How will you characterize places in the modern-day society?
2. Do you see Philippines as a part of the modern world? Why?
3. Based from the video presentation, when can you say that a place if already
modernized?

Definition of Terms:
 Industrialization – It is the period of social and economic change that
transforms a human group from an agrarian society into an industrial
society, involving the extensive re-organization of an economy for the
purpose of manufacturing.

Questions:
1. How does Industrialization happen?
The invention of steam engine was an important turning point in the transition
from agricultural to industrial society. European and American cities were
emerging and agricultural lands were being converted as manufacturing and
industrial sites.
2. How will you characterize a place that is being industrialized?
The seat of Industrial revolution was Great Britain in 1770s, which was
considered as a big empire during that time. Factories rose to prominence as
iconic structures of early capitalist and industrial societies in Europe.
3. Based form the characteristics of Industrial society, can you consider Philippines
as part of it? Why or why not?
Yes, it is very evident that Philippines is a part of it because our country today
has a lot of tall buildings and factories as well, they were able to produce
machines that can be used in producing products.
4. How does the Industrial society embrace technological innovations?
Indicative of economic and social change is when this society embraced
technological innovations like the use of steel, iron and coal, steam engines, and
the changing urban landscapes connected by transportation and communication.
5. How does these inventions help people in the present situation?
Th inventions of different materials helped people in a way that up until now, it
is very useful especially in the growing society, the steel is very useful, in
making and producing different machines, it made people’s lives easier through
these inventions.
6. How does the industrial revolutions affect the lives of the poor and working
class?
The life of the poor and working classes continued to be filled with challenges.
Wages for those who labored in factories were low and working conditions could
be dangerous and monotonous. Unskilled workers had little job security and
easily replaceable because people invented machines that can make their work
easier and lighter.
7. What are the hassles of living in a highly urbanized city like Manila?
Manila is a city where most people wanted to live in, it is a place where you can
see a lot of people who are still awake even it is already late at night, one of the
hassles living in this place is the traffic, since there are a lot of people travelling
every day, it causes traffic and with that people normally get sick because of the
pollution that those vehicles are producing. And, since it is highly urbanized,
everything must be paid there, you cannot plant fruits and vegetables in your
backyard because there are no spaces for it.
8. How does Post-Industrial Society begin?
The 2oth century marked the beginning of information revolution because the rise
of information and communication technology, specifically personal computers
and the Internet.
9. How does these rise of technologies affect home and working environment?
Significant transformations occurred in the home and work environment since
telecommunication and information accessibility are faster and yield higher
productivity.
10. How does globalization portray in this society?
Globalization made the countries participate in the global market. International
trade agreements and global or regional economic blocs are created to ensure that
greater number of people and government open up to a free market.
11. How does this society help the economic system of each country to grow?
It helped each country in terms of economic system because there are a lot of
organizations like ASEAN and APEC which focuses liberalizing and deregulating
its local economy by decreasing or removing tarrifs, allowing foreigner to own
business, making labor force competitive and viable among other things.
12. How does the intervention of technology portray in this society?
One global village is characterized as having a unity in diversity through
communication technology. With this kind of technology, people were able to
communicate with one another, there was a rapid social and economic
development up until now because technology made transactions faster and easier.
Generalization
Pick a card. The teacher prepared 5 index cards which consist different questions
regarding the topic they have finished for today.
IV. Evaluation
The students will be asked to critique the democratic form of government in the
Philippines through the following guide questions.
1. How will you characterize the Philippine’s economic system?
2. How does technology help the Philippine economic system?
3. Where will you categorize the growth of the Philippines? Is it in industrial or
Post-Industrial? Defend your answer by giving a concrete example.

V. Synthesis
How does these two society changed the way people perceived things?
Communication technology is the hallmark of these two societies. These societies
changed the way people perceived things because they tend to always think that
technology will help them in their everyday living and technology made their lives
easier. With these, people tend to depend on technology to the point that personal
communication is no longer practiced.
VI. Assignment
Cite at least 5 advantages and disadvantages of communication technology in the
society.
