RISK Simulation Assignment (WWI)

Objective: Students will simulate countries competing to imperialize the world (in RISK) and connect
their experiences to the major factors that pushed the world closer to WWI.

Directions: At the end of the RISK simulation, reflect on how the game was played by answering the
following prompts. Write your answers under each question. Your paper should be 1-2 pages in length.
(12 font, times new roman, 1.5 line spacing, standard 1 in margins, papers with numerous spelling
and/or grammatical errors will be returned for resubmission and point deduction). Your paper will be
graded based two factors on the attached rubric:
1. Analysis and Connections (SHS Analysis Rubric)
a. Your ability to analyze the game you played and draw connection to class
2. Evidence & Explanation (From SHS Writing Rubric)
a. Your ability to provide detailed evidence from the game to support your responses.

1. How well did you perform in RISK? What are some strategies seemingly work well in this
game and what are some strategies that seemingly lead downfall? Would you change anything
about your strategy if you played again? Explain in detail using evidence from your game.

2. Where and when did conflict occur? Explain in detail using evidence from your game.
● war, alliances, arguments, lies, backstabbing, disagreements, rivalries, did any issues
linger out of class?

3. What were some of the emotions you felt throughout RISK and why? (Beginning, middle, end).
Explain in detail using evidence from your game.

4. Connection: What factors from your answers above (#’s 1-3) make war more likely to occur?
Explain in detail.
● You may make connections to what we have learned in class thus far, and/or speculate
how it might eventually have lead to the outbreak of WWI - (as we learn more about it
next week).

RISK: Reflection.
