CR-4, CR-4L, and CRE-4

Relay Modules
Section: Conventional Fire Alarm Control Panels

GENERAL
The CR-4, CR-4L, and CRE-4 Relay Modules provide the MEA California
State Fire
Marshal
NOTIFIER System 500 with programmable control relays. 291-91-E Vol. III
The CR-4 Control Relay Module provides four Form-C (CR-4L) 7165-0028:157
(SPDT) relay contacts which may be used to control aux-
iliary devices. The CRE-4 Control Relay Expander pro- S635
vides four additional Form-C (SPDT) relay contacts for a
total of eight.
The CR-4L provides an additional 4 Form “C” (SPDT) re-
lays that may be mounted in the lower module position.

FEATURES CS118
CS733
• Four Form-C (SPDT) relay contacts.
• CR-4 may be expanded to eight Form-C relay contacts.
• Green LEDs to indicate relay activation.
• Amber LEDs to indicate relay disabled, module fault, or
system communications failure. 0V7A0.AY
• Plug-in terminal blocks for ease of service.
• Mounts to chassis in seconds using only captive screws.
• High-speed serial interface to CPU-500. BSA
APPLICATIONS 578-81-SA
(CR-4, CRE-4)
The CR-4 and CR-4L provide up to four Form-C (SPDT)
relay contacts for auxiliary control functions (door hold-
ers, elevator capture) or any function requiring a contact CR-4
opening or closure.
Control Relay Module
The CRE-4 expands the CR-4 to a total of eight Form-C
(SPDT) relay contacts.

CONSTRUCTION
The CR-4 consists of a panel-mounted, printed circuit card.
Clear windows in the System 500 door allow for the view-
ing of the CR-4’s status and trouble LEDs. Slide-in pock-
ets in the System 500 door allow for the insertion of de-
scriptive labels for each circuit. Removable terminal blocks
are provided for connection of field wiring.
The CR-4L mounts behind one of the two option module
positions of the CAB-500 chassis. The top position must
mount an IZ-4, CR-4, IC-4, or TC module.
The CRE-4 consists of a printed circuit card which mounts
behind the CR-4 with hardware provided. Removable field-
wiring terminal blocks are included with the each option
module.
In the rightmost module position, a CR-4L may be mounted
and share the position with an IZ-4, CR-4, IC-4, or TC
module. The rightmost position may also have a module
expander (IZE-4, CRE-4, or ICE-4).
NOTE: The CR-4L includes status LEDs (On/Disable/Module CRE-4 CR-4L
Trouble) that may be seen when the CAB-500 door is open. Control Relay Module Control Relay Module

INSTALLATION
The CR-4 mounts in one module position of the chassis using two captive screws.
The ribbon cable connects the CR-4 to the CPU-500.
The CR-4L mounts behind the IZ, ICE, CR-4, IC-4, or TC module. A ribbon cable is
included that allows the CR-4L to be plugged into the CPU-500 second ribbon cable
connector.
The CRE-4 (if used) mounts to the back of the CR-4 with hardware provided.
