MASTER STANDING ORDER

1. RELEIVING OFFICER SHOULD BE ON THE BRIDGE AT LEAST 12 MINUTES BEFORE


HIS DUTY.
2. Never take over watch if you fill strength less due to fatigue, intoxicated and or sleeplessness.
3. Never take over watch if you do not feel fully aware for the general situation of the ship
4. Change over should be postponed when the ship is or about to be engage in a collision avoidance
maneuver or a navigational alteration of course.
5. THE RELIEVING OFFICER OF THE WATCH MUST BE READ CAREFULLY
A. Master Standing Order
B. Supplementary Master’s Instruction – if issued.
C. Navigational Warning
D. Master Night Order Book
Also must be acquainted with the following.
E. Position, Course, Speed, draft and navigational lights within Route plan in ECDIS.
F. Tides, Currents, Weather condition and forecast and visibility.
G. Good order of all navigational and safety equipment of the bridge.
H. Gyro, magnetic, compass error.
I. Traffic of vessel in vicinity – effect of own ship
J. Recognize and familiarize with landmarks and shore lights.
K. Condition/Hazard likely to be encountered on watch
L. Possible affect any Heel, Trim, Squat, increasing the draft due to ship speed and under keel clearance.
6. The relieving officer should not take over the watch until be sure for his sight should be fully adjusted to
prevailing lights as well as to absolutely satisfied with all items checklist.
7. Ensure that all crew members of the relieving watch are capable of carrying out their duties as describe
in par. 2 & 3.
8. Keep a sharp look out in the bridge at the all times. A day and night.
9. At Sea passage have Safe CPA from all other vessels concern not less than 1.5 Nmiles and in accordance
with Master supplementary Master Standing order in Coastal navigation, anchoring and etc.
10. In case of poor visibility at least 3 miles, in situation of TCPA 15minutes of bumper traffic emergency
situation, seediness misgiving, or uncertainty about ship’s position and/or safe navigation and if the
required CPA cannot be attain. CALL THE MASTER IMMEDIATELY!!!!.
11. All the time keep “on” the radar/ARPA and ensure for the ship’s position within Route Plan in ECDIS.
Watch other vessel traffic in the vicinity and have their position monitored by target data acquisition in
Radar/ARPA.
12. Each Watch Officer must check during his watch the following;
a. Bridge and Engine room telegraph, including R.P.M indicator.
b. Intercommunication
c. VHF, MF/HF H3E/DSC, NAVTEX, AIS, INMARSAT-C emergency messages
d. Clocks, Master and Slave.
e. General emergency alarm system
f. Fire detection system
g. Ship’s whistle (under restriction of regulation for avoidance collision at sea)
h. Steering gears and changes over procedure
13. Monitor closely that the courses being steered accurately and that the wheel orders are correctly
executed by helmsman or auto pilot.
14. Keep closely observation of changes in the weather and especially visibility.
15. Ensure that you are aware of the maneuvering capabilities of the vessel including her stopping distance.
16. The officer in watch should bear n mind that the engine are the disposal of assistance for maneuvering.
He should not hesitate to use engine in case of needs.

When controlling main engine should be take in consideration.


a. Time notice of alteration of engine movement
b. Control of revolution ahead and astern
c. Condition and readiness in both “Open Sea and maneuvering conditions.”
17. Under any to the following circumstances, notify the master immediately!!!!
a) If visibility deteriorates to the level laid down in the master instructions.
b) If movement of other vessel are of concern as describe herein 09 and 10.
c) If difficulty is experienced in maintaining course due to heavy traffic or to weather or sea conditions, or
restricted waters.
d) On failure to sight land or a navigation mark or to obtain soundings by the estimated time.
e) If either land or navigation mark is sighted unexpectedly or if an unexpected reduction of sounded depth
occurs.
f) On the breakdown of engines, steering gear or any essential navigational equipment.
g) If in doubt the possibility of weather damage.
h) In any case of safety emergency situation.
i) In case of man overboard.
j) Relieving Officer is not capable of carrying out the watch keeping duties effectively.
k) In any other case situation about which there is doubt.
18. Before hand over watch be sure that the relief officer is absolutely informed and able to be performed
his duties.
