8-day Retreat

Sr. Raquel Miranda

Day One:

First Period of prayer

Begin with a brief conversation with God in which you ask God to bless the hope or
desire you have as you begin your retreat.

Reflect on the following Scripture Texts:

“ I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans…to give you a future with hope…
When you search me, you will find me: if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you
find me, says the Lord… (Jeremiah 29; 11-14)

Other Resources:
1 Corinthians 1:4-9
1 Samuel 3:1-11

Reflection question:
1. As I begin to pray and reflect, what desires and hope do I notice surfacing within me?
2. What people, places and events in my life have been special instruments of grace in
leading me to desire a more intimate relationship with God?
3. Am I aware of the stumbling blocks that prevent my attentiveness to God’s place in
my faith journey?

Write in your journal your reflections

Second Period of prayer:

Grace: To be more open to the word which God speaks in my journey.

Begin by reading a psalm slowly and reflectively. Psalms you may find helpful are:
Ps.23,Ps.63, Ps. 103, Ps.139

Reflect on the following scripture texts:

Ps. 95: 7-8
Revelation 3:20
Hebrew 4:12-13
Reflection Questions:
1. What happens to me when I listen attentively to others?
2.Reading the psalms can contribute to my reflection, quiet time and prayer. What do I
notice both as I read the psalms and as I reflect on them afterward?
3. What helps me to recognize the presence and action of God around me? What steps
help me to slow down enough to attend to God’s presence and action?

Aid to further reflection:

The way in which you listen to others give you clues about the way in which you listen
to God.

At the end of your reflection, pray in gratitude for the awareness of God’s faithful word
spoken to you today.

Write your reflection in your journal.

Third Period of prayer:

Grace: To recognize and claim my longing for God.

Reflect on the following Scripture Texts:

Psalm 46:10
Psalm 63:1
John 4:1-30
Isaiah 55:2-3
Ps. 38:9

Reflection Questions:
1. What plans and desires in my life demonstrate my longing for God?
2. What does my longing for God reveal to me about the core of my being?
3. What do I notice about myself and my thirst for God when I take time to be still and
listen?

Aid to further reflection:

Notice what happens to your faith and hope when you acknowledge your desire for
God.

End the day by praying the Psalm… “Be still and know that I am God”, repeating it like a
mantra until no more words and you find yourself still… breathing in and out.
Stay on as long as you can and end with Glory be to the Father…..

Pls. write in your journal your last entry for the day.

Glory to God
