Stuart’s Garden

My name is Stuart
I planted a garden in our backyard and within my heart,
I tended it with care,
And now so many colors are blooming there.

First there’s a row of blue clouds,

And in between a smile,
Here in my garden now I find
Much joy and happiness.

Yellow sunshine ever bright

Helps kindly plants to grow,
And special seeds of gratefulness
Are the kinds I sow.

The rain with its silver threads,

Are a friend of mine
For the colors to never wilt and never die,
But grows and grows until the end of time.

To keep the garden within my heart

A very important one,
I take away the weeds of hate and anger
And plant a row of fun.

So that every flower I will pick

Will blossom from the start,
And make me proud of the things I grow
In the garden of my heart.

Let’s Plant
Brie and Lee, come with me,
Katie and Ellie I have seeds for you to see.
Seeds of vegetables,
And seeds of fruits.

Bo and Joe to the garden we will go,

And the seeds we have we will sow.
Care for them every day
So they may grow all the way.

Lettuce, spinach, and watercress,

Leafy vegetables so fresh,
Peas, tomato, and squash
Fruit vegetables we love so much.

Fruit trees we will also plant,

And you can choose the seed you want-
Tamarind, apple, mango,
Papaya, and avocado.

John and Jack, come bring your tools,

Hurry up, and dig some holes.
Let us plant the seeds today
So we’ll harvest more someday.

What Illegal Logging Can Do

Have you ever worn a shirt that had a small hole in it? What did you do? Did you just
ignore it? Did you have it repaired or mended? If you chose to ignore it, the tear must have
become bigger overtime. It is the same with Illegal Logging. If people cut down a few trees for a
day or two, it will not be a big deal. But if it continues to rise over a long period of time, then
our planet will have some problems.

Before we started to build cities many centuries ago, they say that 60% of the Earth was
covered in Forests. Now, scientists say that by the year 2030, we might only have 10% of our
forests left, and if we don’t stop deforestation, they could all be gone in 100 years.

Deforestation is when forests are converted for other purposes by cutting down the
trees to clear the land for other use. With 7 billion people in the planet, we need more land to
create houses and infrastructures. People also make money by clearing the forests and selling
the lumber and wood to be converted into products we use everyday such as paper and wood.
Alexzandra M. Cargullo URC02 Prof. Dolba

Why are forests Important?

Forests help regulate the Earth’s temperature and weather patterns by producing rain.
It is also because trees help absorb the harmful carbon dioxide that we humans release in the
atmosphere and they provide the oxygen that we need to breathe. Forests are also home to
plants and animals. It took 60 to 100 million years for Rainforests to evolve and it is the home of
over 30 million species of plants and animals. When we clear the forests, they all die. Rainwater
is filtered through the forest floor to make groundwater and help avoid erosion, where soil is
washed away causing rivers and streams to be blocked. This can cause flooding and also affects
the quality of drinking water for local people.

What can you do to help save our forests?

Reforestation is a great way to fight back against the destructive effects of

deforestation and protect the Earth's forests. Planting trees and restoring forest ecosystems
remains the best solution to the problem. Another thing that we can do is to Reduce. Reuse.
Recycle. When we recycle products, we help save natural resources like trees. These are the
least that we could do. Nature gives us so much. We should be thankful for all the things
Mother Earth gives us. It is our responsibility to care for her, to get only our due, nothing more.
