PROJECT PROPOSAL:

Introduction: This internship is a bridge between the institute and the organization. This training
program is designed to give the future manger a feel about the corporate happenings and work culture
of an organization. These real life situations are entirely different from the stipulated exercise enacted
in an artificial environment inside the classroom and it is precisely because of this reason that this
summer training program has been designed so that the managers of tomorrow can get ideas about the
real time business operations. This summer internship program intends to help us to apply our
theoretical knowledge into the practical field.

Literature/Library review: Inventory management is the most important part of the current assets of
an organization. Proper inventory management is important because it has a direct impact on the
financial resources of the organization. Excess investment on the part of inventory is not viable
because the fund that will be held up in inventories and it will not be available for other important
segments of the business. Less investment is also detrimental because the company might face a huge
problem in fulfilling the requirement of the business. Therefore, proper inventory management is very
essential for every organization belonging to different types of industries as well as scale.

This project intends to explain in detail inventory management and how it is operated in an
organization. Various ratio analysis have been taken out on the basis of the data provided in the
annual reports so as to find out the trends of inventory management requirements in Tata Steel
Limited, currently 10th largest manufacturer of steel in the world. Also, a comparative analysis of Tata
Steel Limited, JSP (Jindal Steel and Power Limited) and JSW Steel will be done with the help of
Ratios as well as a Cost Sheet to find out how effective the inventory management process is when
compared to JSP Ltd. Thus analysis intends to study the different techniques used by the different
companies and how effective those prove in today’s competitive world.

Microsoft Word as well as Microsoft Excel will be used for the preparation of various annexures
which will be included at the end of the report.
Purpose and Objectives of Study:

 To analyze the inventory management and financial position of the company.

 Understand the Company’s Financial Statements and then calculate ratios, Cost Sheet
of Tata Steel Ltd. And comparative analysis between Tata Steel Ltd. and Jindal Steel
and Power Ltd.

 To appreciate the areas of achievements and analyze the areas of weakness.

 To extrapolate the company’s position with the steel industry.
