B. Motivation

Class, look at our classroom. (The students will look around)

What do you see?
What do you feel?

Can you give a word that describes our Ma’am, beautiful.

classroom?
Yes, beautiful. How about the other? Ma’am, Peaceful.

Clean.
Okay, very good!

So, you have described the classroom Yes, Ma’am!

with the use of simple words.
Simple, yet meaningful right?

Now, let’s look upon the words that Ma’am, I observed that all the words
you have given. that we have given are words that
describe our classroom.
What did you observe?

Yes, very good. These words are the

words that describe

In other words, these are describing

words.

C. Discussion
In English, what do we call these Ma’am, I think those words are called
describing words? adjectives.

Very good! These are called adjectives.

So, what is an adjective? Ma’am, an adjective is descriptive

word.
Yes. It is a descriptive word wherein it is
used to describe or give information about
things, ideas, people and animals.

It usually modifies a noun.

Again, what is noun?

Ma’am, noun is the name of the person,
Okay, very good! Noun is a naming word. place, things, animals, events, and etc.
What are the examples of noun?

Ma’am, notebook.

Shoes.
Okay! We also have clock, pen, and etc.

Look at these sentences:

-This is a beautiful flower.
-She is a talented girl.
-He is a poor man.

The words beautiful, talented, and poor

tell something more about the nouns.

What are the nouns in the sentences? Ma’am, flower.

Girl.

Man.
Yes, very good!

So, the word beautiful tells what kind of

flower it is, that is, it describes the flower.

How about the second sentence?

What does the word talented describes? Ma’am, it describes what kind of girl
she is.
Very good! The word talented tells what
kind of girl she is.

Look at the third example.

The word poor tells what kind of man he

is.

Therefore, as what I’ve said earlier,

adjective is a describing-word.

It is a word added to a noun to tell us

something more about that noun.

How about these sentences.

-Yesterday, I bought a beautiful, small
new, pink, hair brush.
-There’s a great, big, black, spider in my
bedroom!!

What did you observe in the sentences? Ma’am, there were many adjectives
used in each sentence.
Yes, there were many adjectives used in
the sentences.

For you to easily identify the adjectives

you need to locate first the nouns.

On the given sentences, what are the Ma’am, on the first sentence, the hair
nouns there? brush is the noun.

On the second sentence, spider is the

noun.

So, what are the words that describe the Ma’am, beautiful, small new, and pink.
noun on the first sentence?

Very good! How about on the second Ma’am, great, big, and black.
sentence?

An adjective tells about the condition,

color, size, shape, or age of a noun which
is known as Adjective of Quality.

It answers the question, “what kind of?”

Let’s go back to these two given

sentences:
-Yesterday, I bought a beautiful, small
new, pink, hair brush.
-There’s a great, big, black, spider in my
bedroom!!

What kind of hair brush did she buy Ma’am, beautiful, small, new, and pink.
yesterday?

So, the word beautiful tells the condition

of the noun that answers the question
“how good?” and is refers to an opinion.

How about the word small? Ma’am, it tells the size of the noun.

Yes, very good!

The word new tells about the age of the

noun and the word pink refers to its color.

Let’s proceed to the second sentence.

What kind of spider is in her bedroom?

Ma’am, great, big, and black.
What does the word great tells about?
Ma’am, it tells about the condition of
the spider (noun).
Very good! How about the words big and
black? Ma’am, the word big tells about the
size of the spider and the word black is
Yes, excellent! about its color.

Now, make your own sentence using

adjectives. (The students will give their own
sentence)
Class; also remember that adjectives
usually come before the nouns they
describe. For example:
-This is a red flower.
-It is a big house.

What are the adjectives in the given

sentences? Ma’am, the adjectives in the sentences
are the words red and big.
How about the nouns?
Ma’am, the nouns are the words flower
Yes, very good! The words red and big and house.
come before the nouns flower and house.

Give a sentence using adjectives before

the nouns. (The students will give their own
sentence)
Sometimes, the adjectives come after its
noun. For example:
-The flower is red.
-The house is big.

What come first?

Ma’am, the nouns flower and house
Very good! come first before the adjectives red and
big.
Give a sentence using adjectives after the
nouns. (The students will give their own
sentence)
As I observe, you were all actively
participating in our discussion, which
means that you understand our lesson. Am Yes, Ma’am!
I right class?

Do you have any questions?

Any clarification?
If you have nothing to ask then, bring out

wherein you are going to identify first the
noun and then locate the adjectives in the

the sample format.
