Advantages For Reopening BNPP

1. Operating BNPP will save the country & foreign exchange ( buying of fuels
from other countries)
- Uranium has an extremely high energy density in which a small amount
contains a large amount of energy than that of coal. It can product about
120,000 times per kilogram of energy.
- For example, approximately 8 kWh of heat can be generated from 1 kg of
coal while 1 kg of uranium can generate around 24,000,000 kWh of heat.
- BNPP only needs to be refueled once every 18 months and with ONLY 20
Tons of fuel. Such fuel will fit a small truck. For 18 months, BNPP can
generate about 8.1 billion Kwhs which can lower the risk of power shortage.
( P2 per kWh)
- So with nuclear, there will be huge savings in forex. Such savings can be used
for important things like needed infrastructure that will benefit our people
and our country. Now, we burn a lot of forex away as fuel without anything
much and permanent to show for it after.
3. Nuclear energy isn’t that dangerous compared to fossil fuels
- According to the World Health Organization (follows in “Deaths per terawatt-hour” (TWh), Coal
170,000, Oil 36,000, Biofuel 24,000, Gas 4,000, Hydro 1,400, Solar 440, Wind 150, Nuclear 90.
The numbers for nuclear already include Chernobyl, Three Mile, and Fukushima. If not for the
fatalities at Chernobyl, nuclear would be ZERO. No one died or was injured at Three Mile or at
Fukushima. And so, nuclear is the safest of energy sources.

4. BNPP is located in an area where no much disasters can occur

- The BNPP was designed to withstand an intensity 9 earthquake and is located 18 meters above sea
level. ( 9 Earthquake = 10 meter tsunami)
- Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said possible hazards that the plant may encounter are limited to
minimal ground shaking, which can be mitigated. Added that assessments show the plant is far
from any fault lines and is built on a solid foundation of hard rock.
- He also dismissed several possible hazards on the plant's location such as a volcanic eruption,
saying that Mount Natib is no longer active.
- The plant is also unlikely to suffer from landslides or tsunamis since it is built on a flat surface 80
meters above sea level. ( The Fukushima plant was designed to withstand an intensity 7
earthquake which it did bu was submerged by a tsunami next.)
