Minimum pick-up test
> Indicates the lowest voltage which
operates the trip or close coil
> Conventional procedure
> Start at a certain voltage level
> Try to operate
> If not working, increase voltage
and try again
> Ramp the voltage pulse until
minimum voltage is reached with
which the circuit breaker switches

> Everybody has a „selfmade“ solution

Minimum pick-up test II
> CIBANO 500 approach: automatic testing
after setting pass/fail level to a certain
percentage of the nominal value
> Pause between pulses to avoid overheating
of the coils

Motor Current
> Trend of motor current shows you the torque needed by the motor
> Procedure
> Connect source to charging motor or use current clamp
> Check charging times and charging currents
> Compare with previous measurements
> Analyze undervoltage conditions

Static contact resistance test (µΩ)
> Micro-ohm (µΩ) meter
> Validates resistance of primary path
> Ensures low losses of load current
> Can be used for circuit breakers,
bus bar joints, etc.

> Measurement method

> Inject a high current
> Measure small voltage in a
noisy environment
> Use 4-wire technique for
connection

New Trends

> There is a trend to use non-intrusive sensors placed outside live-parts of

the circuit breaker for transient voltage measurements through capacitive
sensor
> During operation on load These sensors can be used for detecting voltage
on the primary circuit
> Additionally, these sensors can be used for online PD trending to note
deterioration of the dielectric.

Timing Test with CIBANO 500

> Voltage-Based Timing measurement (VTM)

> is an in-service measuring method
> measures main voltages of MV-SF6
switchgear via the voltage detection system
(VDS)
> measures trip/close signals
> determines trip/close times

> On MV-SF6 switchgear the VDS is the only

access point where timing can be measured
