The strength of a developed nation depends primarily on the literacy of the Nation. With this vision as a
beacon “Kalvi Chemmal” Late Shri.T.K.Pattabhiraman set out the mission to provide quality education
and the fruit of the endeavor was the founding of the Coimbatore Educational and Cultural Foundation
Trust. Under this trust Sankara College of Science and Commerce was established in the year 1991. In
Pursuit of knowledge is the prophetic motto of the college.
Sankara Educational Institutions are ceaseless in their pursuit of excellence, to provide quality education
to all the poor in quest of knowledge.The student community and the society today have recognized the
inspired effort that Sankara is now one among the most sought after temples of learning. The college
has a long academic tradition in scholarship. This is coupled with facilities for the pursuit of knowledge
so that it caters to the needs of rural students who aspire for education in arts, science and commerce
courses.
The Sankara Management is headed by Shri.T.P.Ramachandran, Managing Trustee & Secretary, an
able leader and self motivated personality. We believe in not just teaching but to guide the students for
overall development. May the quality education, we impart to our students enlighten their minds and
enthuse their hearts towards high aspiration.

Welcome to the academic year 2019-20. Here is the SANSAC Bulletin, the monthly
newsletter of Sankara College of Science and Commerce.The faculty members
and the student contributors have expressed great zeal in contributing towards this
newsletter through their participation in varied activities.
Our sincere thanks to the team, whose hard work and enthusiasm has made it
possible to record and cherish all the dynamic efforts, activities and laurels of our
students and faculty in large. We are happy to release the Volume-1 Issue-2

Skill Development Programme Estd. 1983
Training and Placement Cell

Sankara College of Science and Commerce launched 25 Days Employability Skill Training in Financial Literacy
programme in association with ICT Academy of Tamilnadu sponsored by Reliance Money Social Initiative and Reliance
Home Finance on 2nd July 2019. The 25 Days Training Programme MoU is exchanged between Sankara College of
Science and Commerce and ICT ACADEMY. The resource person Mr.N.Makeshkumar, Trainer, ICT Academy briefed
about 25 days programme and modules to the students and insisted students to study for the betterment of the nation. The
Course materials were distributed to all the students by the resource person.
Freshers Open Talent Show

Fine Arts Club
The fine arts club of sankara college of science and commerce organized an open talent show on 05.07.2019 for the first
years. Principal Dr.H.Balakrishnan inaugurated the function & Prof.Deepa has introduced the fine arts club members
The show begins with classical dance and singing, Nearly 100 students have participated & exposed their multi-talent like
mimicry , singing, dance, mehandi, drawing, photography, painting, & played musical instruments, like guitar
& keyboard.

The Department of Business Administration with CA and Xplore IT, Coimbatore signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) for a Value Added Programme entitled PHP with MySQL on 08.07.19 in the Principal’s Office.
Mr.Aravind Kuppusamy, Head, Training and Development, Xplore IT, Coimbatore handed over the signed MoU to the
Principal, Sankara College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore.

The Association of Computer Science and Computer Applications (TECHNEGEN) was inaugurated on 10.07.19 for the
academic year 2019-2020 by the chief guest Dr.B.Thiyagarajan,Deputy Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology,Palakkad
The chief guest Dr.B.Thiyagarajan, Deputy Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad presented the inaugural
address and he emphasized many examples and experiences to explain his views to the gathering. He highlighted the
steps to develop the personality of the students and to get placed in reputed companies. He stressed the students to
develop the skills to compete with the current scenario.

Department of Tamil
The Tamil Literary Association was inaugurated on 11.07.19 for the academic year 2019-2020 by the chief guest
Mr.V.Gowthaman, Film Director. The Function inaugurated with Tamil Thai Vazhthu. Dr.P.M.Anbushiva, HoD, Department
of Tamil welcomed the gathering. Dr.H.Balakrishnan, Principal, presided over the function and delivered the presidential
address. He stressed the essence of Tamil language and he emphasized the three word theory of Tamil language which
bundles the whole universe. The guest of honour Mr.V.Gowthaman, Film Director presented the Chief Guest address. He
quoted his personal incidents and experience in the tenure of his life. He advised the students to work hard and achieve
pinnacle in their competent future.

The Association of Commerce CA - CHAROITE has been inaugurated on 12.07.19 for the academic year 2019-2020 by
the chief guest Mr. S. Ashwin Balaji, Deputy General Manager TVS Supply Chain Solutions Limited. The chief highlighted
that students should have a strong knowledge about their own discipline and gave some illustration from his personal life
which shaped him as a successful person. He also stressed the importance of writing diary every day to have nostalgic
ideas in their future.

The Department of Commerce has been inaugurated on 17.07.19 for the academic year 2019-2020 by the chief guest
Mr.K.Baskaran, , Chartered Accountant, KSG Subramanian & Co ,Coimbatore. The chief guest Mr.K.Baskaran, Chartered
Accountant, KSG Subramanian & Co, Coimbatore addressed the gathering and he highlighted that the career options
are vast and varied in the field of Commerce. He also emphasized that the students should enrich their communication
skills and practical knowledge to illumine in this field.

Consumer Club of Sankara College of Science and Commerce conducted an orientation programme on 12th July 2019 to
the students to spread awareness about the rights and responsibilities of Citizens and Consumers to reach the vision of
markets in India.
Know Your Alumni

Department of English Literature
Alumni play a vital role in every institution’s advancement activities. To fill the gap between the Alumni and the Institutions,
Department of English, at Sankara College of Science and Commerce, conducted the event “KNOW YOUR ALUMNI” on
11 th July 2019. Mr. Ramsingh Prabhu, Head i/c, organized and welcomed the Alumni Ms. Nithila Carmel M., 2014 Batch,
an Advocate (practicing in Chennai), Content writer and a professional communicator for the Alumni meet. She shared her
experience through a video presentation comprising the ‘Scopes and Hopes’ for Literature students. She exposed and
proved to be an outstanding student by participating in various competitions held in and around our college. She expressed
her sincere gratitude to the staff members, who were in this college at that time of her study. Students realized the benefits
of studying Literature and various opportunities lay in their hands.

POPULATION DAY - NSS

NSS of Sankara College of Science and Commerce was observed world population day on July 11th 2019 to raise the
awareness of people about global population issues. Dr.R.Baskar, NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathiar University
was the chief guest of the programme. Principal Dr.H.Balakrishnan presided over the programme.

HIV/AIDS Awareness Programme

Red Ribbon Club
HIV/AIDS awareness programme organized by Sankara Red Ribbon Club. The guest of honour Mrs.K.B.Vinodhini, MSW,
Counselor, Primary Health Centre, Thudiayalur, Coimbatore addressed the gathering and presented the chief guest
address. She highlighted that nowadays the awareness raising is needed about its occurrence and spread in protecting
the people from the epidemic. It is for this reason that the National AIDS Control Programme lays maximum emphasis on
the widespread reach of information, education and communication on HIV/AIDS prevention.

The Catering Science and Management department organized Know Your Alumni for the students of CSHM.
Mr. SHYAM CHURCHIL.K 2013-2016 Batch student shared his knowledge with current students. He explained the
students about the latest hospitality industry expectations from the students and what are all the skills required from the
students. Also he explained about the recent job roles in production, bakery and house keeping in various hotel industries.

The Department of Catering Science and Hotel Management of Sankara College of Science and Commerce has conduct-
ed a Bakery product display and sale show on 17-7-19 at Dhanam Hall, Sankara Campus. Students prepared snacks items
like chocolate truffle cake, black forest cake, pizza, burgers, puffs and few other pastries which enabled them to venture
out as an entrepreneur.
DRUG Abuse & ANTI Ragging

Awareness Programme - NSS
NSS of Sankara College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore city police jointly organized an awareness programme on
Anti Ragging and Drug Abuse on 17th July 2019 in the college premises. The Chief guests of the programme was
M.Somasundaram, Assistant Commissioner of police (Law & Order), Coimbatore (East) and Mr.V.Selvaraj, Inspector of
Police, Saravanampatti Police Station.

The inauguration of Eco Club of Sankara College of Science and Commerce was conducted on 17.07.2019 by the chief
guest Mr M. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Conservation of Forest, Coimbatore, and Mr. Thangavelu, Organic Farmer,
Coimbatore. The guest of honour Mr. M. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Conservation of Forest, Coimbatore highlighted the vast
opportunities laid in the Forest Recruitment Service, and also how to preserve the Wild life by the conservation of Forest
and stressed that it is the duty of youngsters to preserve the resource of Nature.

Rotary Club of Coimbatore Uptown, Nizhal Maiyam, a registered NGO with Coimbatore City Police jointly conducted a
human chain regarding importance of Tree and Helmet Wearing on 20 th July 2019 starting from Kavundampalayam to
Goundermills at 10.00 AM. 100 NSS volunteers from Sankara College of Science and Commerce participated in this
human chain.
Outbound Training to Anaikatti

The students of Depatment of BBA CA visited Anaikatti for Outbound Training on 20th July 2019. Many acitvities like team
building, leadership and creativie thinking conducted for the students to encourage them to think out of the box and to
enhance the skill set of the students.

The Association of Information Technology and Innovation Club has been inaugurated on 23.07.19 for the academic year
2019-2020 by the chief guest Mr.Dinesh Paranthagan, CEO &Founder, Hackup Technology, Coimbatore.The Chief guest
addressed the gathering and delivered the special address. He highlighted the importance and advantages of AI
technology. He emphasized that the AI Technology works as a problem solver,it converts information into knowledge and
he illumined the students mind by providing the new innovative technologies used in IT field.

Consumer Club of Sankara College of Science and Commerce has been inaugurated on 24.07.19 for the academic year
2019-2020 by the chief guest Dr.S.Durgalakshmi, Professor, Government Law College, Coimbatore. The chief guest
addressed the gathering and she emphasized the importance and objectives of law. She also stressed the consumer rights
and jurisdiction of law and their procedure for punishable offences.

Plant Seedlings - Bharathiar University

Sankara NSS
Nearly 200 volunteers from Sankara College of Science and Commerce joined the initiative taken by Siruthuli Iyakkam
to plant 10K seedlings in 3 minutes to create Bharathiar Vanam at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Great initiative to
make earth more green and our students contributed in planting seedlings on 25th July 2019.

Department of Information Technology conducted Industry Institute Forum on 25th July 2019. Mr.X.Levale, Senior
Developer, LITZ Tech India Pvt Limited and Mr.Sabarinathan Muthu, Executive Manager, Gateway Solutions was invited
for the Forum. The students interacted about the latest trends and innovations in computer technology.

District Employment Office Visit
Training and Placement Cell organized one day visit to District Employment office, Coimbatore to our spacial students on
25.07.2019. Smt.A.Latha., Regional Director, District Employment office, gave an awareness on various examinations
Opportunities in Govt. Sectors to them. Smt. Jothimani, Dy. Director of Employment Office, motivated our students with
free TNPSC Group Exams materials. Ms.Suja., Interpreter, explained the concepts very well to our special students.

Sankara College of Science and Commerce has conducted National seminar on National Education Policy 2019 on 26th
July 2019 in TKP Hall. The Chief guest Dr. B.Ramasamy Pro Vice Chancellor, Oriental University, Indore, Madhya Pradesh,
Member Advisory committee NCPCR Govt of India graced the seminar with his presence. Dr.N.Murugeswari, Professor of
Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University, Trichy, Dr. N. Muthaiah, Dean, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University-
Coimbatore Campus and Thiru Ma.Ko.Chi. Rajendran, State Organising Secretary, Desiya Chinthanai Kazhagam, Chennai
honored the occasion.

The Women Empowerment Cell of Sankara College of Science and Commerce was inaugurated for the academic year
2019-2020 on 26.07.2019 by the chief guest Mrs. Vanathi Srinivasan State General Secretory BJP. TIn the chief guest
address she emphasized the importance of our culture, family values and tradition. She quoted various examples from her
personal life. Her inspirational and thought provoking speech endless rocked the seeds of empowerment in the minds of
the students.

Department of Commerce
Department of Commerce conducted an Industry Institute Forum for the students. The Chief Guest was
Mr.D.Purushothaman, Director, Astral Business Consulting Pvty Ltd. He interacted with the students about current trends in
Commerce, Banking and Insurance Industries and what are all the skills required for the same. Also he explained about the
internships and job opportunities in the commerce sector.

Department of Commerce CA, of Sankara College of Science and Commerce conducted on 27.07.19 by the chief guest
CMA Surya Prakash, MC Member of ICAI, and CMA Siva Prakash, Associate Member of ICAI, Coimbatore. The chief
guest briefed the professional career guidance to the students and illustrated the importance of the CA, CMA, and CS.
CMA Siva Prakash, Associate Member of ICAI, in his interaction with the student, emphasized the detail level of courses
and job opportunities in the society.

As a part of faculty development and training, the ressearch cell of sankara has conducted practice test of UGC-NET for
various subjects through an online mode myKlassroom.com.

Post Graduate (MBA / M.Com)
Inaugural of Post Graduate held on 31st July 2019. Mr.S.Venkatesh, Partner, KSG Subramaniyam & Co inaugurated the
function and addressed the students. Shri.T.P.Ramachandran, Secretary presided over the function and Dr.H.Balakrishnan,
Principal welcomed the gathering. Freshers of M.Com and MBA were present.
Bhoomi Madha Day

Celebration
Sankara College of Science and Commerce observed Bhoomi Madha Day on 31.07.2019 in our college premises. All the
staff members and students switched of their mobiles and systems and maintained silence for 10 minutes, sitting with their
feet folded avoiding contact with the floor. All the students and staff members took a pledge to save our planet.

Prof.M.Thiruchelvi, HOD, Dept. of Mathematics, Sankara College of
Science and Commerce acted as a Chief Guest and Resource
Person for Inaugural of Mathematics Association at VLBJCAS. She
shared what she learnt to the young minds about the importance of
mathematics in technology upgradation and day today life.

Asst.Prof, Department of Computer Science participated in 10 Day
Faculty Development Programme at Infosys, Mysuru from 21st July
2019 - 31st July 2019 on the topic Global Business Foundation Skills.

Achievements
Amsaveni of I Year B.Com (Special Student) Won 3rd Place and
SANKARA Team got 3rd point winner in 11th Tamilnadu deaf chess
senior championship held at Anna University, Chennai on 27.7.2019.
Empowering Persons with Disabilities to succeed in the competi-

tive world by Skill Development training and creating sustainable
livelihood opportunities. Here comes the special training for speech
and hearing impaired students was successfully conducted in the
last semester and all the students are awarded and Certified with
National Skill Development, Govt of India.
