Subject: DTR 620 Assembly, Disassembly, and Functional Test Procedures
The information contained in this LATIN is provided to assist Level III - IV Authorized Servicers in their diagnostic
process for the product(s) and conditions specified below. The information contained in this L.A.T.I.N. is for
internal purposes and for use only by Motorola Authorized Service Centers under an Authorized Servicer contract
and as described in the Motorola Latin America Countries Region Authorized Servicer Handbook. This L.A.T.I.N is
for information only. No warranty is implied or authorized.

Description: This Latin outlines the process for the assembly and dis-
assembly of the DTR 620 portable radio.

Models: DTR620

Detailed Information:

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Magna ¼” screwdriver or equivalent (Magna part number 37033)


• #6 TORK bit for ¼ driver or equivalent T6 IP
• Xcelite® P3321 flat head screwdriver or equivalent.
• Antenna Nut Spanner Bit Motorola P/N 6680371B34
• Antistatic Wire Strap with proper grounding system
• Nylon Soldering Tool SCC; (Black Stick) Motorola P/N SLN7223A

Disassembly Procedure:
1. Remove the battery door, battery, and antenna.

2. Using the Xcelite screwdriver P3321, carefully remove the rear


escutcheon (Motorola Label), as shown in the following figure.

3. Remove all 8 screws from the rear housing and carefully remove the
rear housing as shown in the following figure. Make sure the battery
contacts on the rear housing are not bent or distorted during the
disassembly process.

4. Visually inspect and denote the locations and orientations of the PTT
backer (a) and the vibrator elastomeric connector (b), as shown in the
following figure.

Note: The location and orientation of the PTT backer and the vibrator
elastomeric connector is very important in the assembly process.

5. Remove the antenna bushing retainer using the Antenna Nut Spanner
Bit tool # 6680371B34, as shown in the following figure.

6. Carefully remove the bushing housing and bushing connector


ensuring to denote the orientation of this part for future assembly, as
shown in the following figure.

7. Using the Nylon Soldering Tool SCC (Black Stick), carefully remove the
Printed Circuit Board (PCB) from the front housing. Place the black
stick, as shown in the following figure.

Note: Do not push the black stick to far into the housing to ensure the LCD
glass does not get scratched or cracked during the disassembly process.

RE-ASSEMBLY PROCEEDURE

1. Make sure the internal surface of the lens cover is clear of any foreign
material and on the front housing, ensure that the PTT button
components, key pad, microphone, and lower dust cover are all in the
correct locations and oriented correctly.

2. Insert the PCB assembly into the front housing by inserting the lower
connector first, as shown by the arrow in the following figure. Carefully
spread the front cover sides while slowly and gently pushing the PCB
into front housing.

Note: Ensure that the LCD glass is still free of any foreign material

3. Connect the antenna bushing connector to the PCB connector and


insert antenna busing housing into front cover housing, ensuring the
correct orientation as when the part was removed, as shown in the
following figure.

Note: Ensure that antenna bushing connector is connected properly to the


PCB connector.

4. Replace antenna bushing retainer and hand tighten, as shown in the
following figure.

5. Ensure the rear housing charge contacts are not damaged and ensure
the PTT Backer and the vibrator elastomeric connector are properly
placed and oriented on the rear housing, as shown in the following
figure.

Note: Ensure that the battery contacts on the rear housing are not distorted
during the assembly process.

6. Mate the rear housing to front housing and install the 8 screws.

7. Replace the rear escutcheon (Motorola Label); ensure the adhesive is


properly placed.

8. Replace battery and cover.

9. Perform the following functionality tests:


• Button Test
• Transmit and Receive Test
• Charging Test

Radio Verification Test:
Button Test:

1. Attach a battery to the radio and Power up the radio in the test mode by
pressing the “Power” button and the “Volume/Up” key at the same time;
then turn on the radio.

2. The “LCD Contrast” Screen will display the following information:

3. Verify the text is clear with no missing segments. If the “LCD Contrast”
Screen passes inspection, then press “Skip” (Right Option Key).

4. The “LCD Contrast” Screen will now display a “Gray Level” display
pattern, as shown in the following figure.

5. Verify there is no interference from the top pattern into the bottom
pattern.

6. If the “Gray Level” display pattern passes inspection, then press “Right
Option Key”.

7. The “LCD Contrast” Screen will now display the Check All 4 Borders”
Screen, as shown in the following figure.

8. Verify the text is clear with no missing segments and verify that all four
borders are preset in the display.

9. Press the “Home Key” to continue.

Note: The above figure shows “Mute Key” but the display should read
“Home Key”.

10. The “LCD Contrast” Screen will now display the following:

11. Verify the Backlight and the Vibrator is “ON” and verify the text is
clear with no missing segments. The radio should be continuously
vibrating.

12. Press the “Volume/Up” key to continue.

13. The “LCD Contrast” Screen will now display the following:

14. Verify the Speaker Tone is “ON”.

15. Press “Volume/Down” key to continue

16. The “LCD Contrast” Screen will now display the “Aud Loopback Screen”.

17. Speak into the microphone. The following shall be displayed: “Mic Detect
Test Passed”.

18. Press “Right Option Key” to continue.

19. The “LCD Contrast” Screen will now display the “Button Test Screen”.

20. Press the Up, Down, Menu, Left Option Key, and PTT buttons; as you
press each one, the Icon will disappear from the display.

21. Once all of the Icon’s disappear, the “LCD Contrast” Screen will now
display the “Insert Audio Jack Screen”.

22. Insert a Remote Speaker Mic (RSM) HMN9026C; “BUTTON” will be


displayed on the screen. See the following Figure.

23. Press the PTT on the RSM and check for an audio tone.

24. The “LCD Contrast” Screen will display “Test Passed”.

25. Unplug the RSM to complete the test.

26. Key Test should be displayed and a “beep-beep” tone shall be heard.

27. Power “Off” the radio and back “On” again.

Functional Test:

1. Acquire another radio, which is programmed with the same


frequencies, and transmit back and forth between the two radios to
ensure the newly assembled radio transmits and receives.

Charging Test:

1. Place the radio into a charger. The radio should power on and display
“Charger Attached”.
