1. Why
Designed to monetarily compensate you for working an additional 6th day (work hours accumulated in a
week exceeds 40 hours) by providing a project allowance.

2. Who
All associates, including trainees, up to the level of Associate Director who are on India payroll and
working in any of the Cognizant facilities including client locations in India
 The policy also covers associates working in Corporate Functions, subject to fulfillment of the
eligibility criteria.

 This policy is designed to govern the uncommon situation of associates working an extra day in a seven
day week. The Comp-off policy will take precedence until the 6th Day Allowance is specifically
approved.

3. What
A. Definitions
6th Day: The associate is required to come to office on a 6th day over and above the individual’s five
working days and the accumulated 40 hours of work to provide customer support. The associate is required
to work for a minimum of 2 hours to qualify for this allowance

Note: The total number of working hours will be limited to the law of the land.
 Shift: Working hours that fall outside the standard work hours of Cognizant.
Note: This is limited to the accumulated 40 hours of work in a week.
 Cognizant’s standard work hours: 09.00 a.m. to 06.00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
 Weekly off: Any two calendar days within a seven day work week, where the associate is not expected
to be at work.

B. Entitlements

 The Comp-off policy will only take precedence until specifically approved.

 Project allowance is payable for work on the 6th day, subject to meeting one of the following
conditions:
o Additional hours of work done on the 6th day is billed to the customer and has prior
approval of the Business Unit (BU) Head or
o Additional hours of work is not billable, but is mandated by specific customer needs and has
prior approval of the Business Unit (BU) Head or
o Additional hours of work are mandated by internal needs and have prior approval of the BU
Head.

 Associates working on the 6th Day will be considered for payment of project allowance irrespective of
the leaves availed during the week.
 Associates on receipt of project allowance will not be eligible for additional reimbursements on food
for working on the 6th Day of the week.

 Transport facility will be extended to associates working on the 6th Day of the week and will be
included as part of the project cost.
Note: Where arrangement of transport by Cognizant is not feasible, associates can reimburse
transport costs to the extent of Rs. 200/- (without bills) for every 6th Day worked.

 Where an associate is on deputation to any location in India, and is working on the 6th Day of the
week, the project allowance will be paid in addition to the deputation allowance and will continue to
be governed by the provisions of the Deputation policy.

 There will be no comp-off in addition to, or in lieu of the 6th Day Allowance for working:

 Where the duties performed on the 6th Day is at a client location and the client works only for
half-day, on such days, prorating of project allowance is not required.

 Ad hoc requirements (that is, not pre-approved) should be addressed with comp-off.

 Exceptions limited to backdating 6th Day for up to a month, should be approved by the Delivery
Director and BU Head of the project.

4. How
a. Project allowance will be paid along with payroll based on the monthly inputs from the Reporting
Managers for eligible associates.
Note: Monthly inputs for payment of project allowance will cover only the actual 6th Day worked as
of the date of advice.

5. Responsibilities
 Managers
o Allocate associates to the correct pre-approved project
o Schedule and inform the associate at least 72 hours in advance to allow Associates to plan their
personal time
o Send a payroll advice to HRSS within prescribed timelines
 Associates
o Keep contact information up to date in the respective Cognizant systems to enable faster
communication

 Delivery Directors
o Review and approve the advice submitted by the Supervisor for payroll processing

6. Exceptions
 The benefits of this policy are governed by the terms and conditions of employment in practice at
Cognizant. This is subject to change from time to time. Cognizant reserves the right to amend its
policies as necessitated. All statutory requirements are applicable as mandated by law.
 All exceptions to this will be directed to the HR India Benefits.
